Which tele neck would match Jerry D in bridge?

I am getting a MIA tele (alder body + rosewood neck). JD would fill the bridge. Which pup would be good fit for neck?

Thanks.

I would think A2P...let me know how you like the JD, though, because I'm thinking about getting one myself.

It's in my tele now and all I can say is

"JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! ...." :laugh2:

JD is my first tele pickup so I can't compare with other tele pickups. Also, I am new to tele "twang" chick'n pink'n so I don't think I bring the best out of it. But I feel that it sounds little thicker (maybe slight more mid) than typical tele bridge sound.

Cheers,

If your Tele is routed for a neck HB, then I would heartily recommend a Phat Cat neck pickup to pair with your JD. If you want a traditional Tele neck pup, then I would recommend the Antiquity Tele Rhythm, as I was not at all impressed with the A2 Pro or 5/2 Nashville Studio Tele rhythm models. The Antiq rhythm is very nice and should come close to keeping up with the JD lead.

The Alnico 2 Pro is the one Duncan recommends. But I found it to be a little low in output and warmer than I prefer. I think the Antiquity I would be a better choice.

Personally, I prefer the alnico 5 for Tele neck pickups: more treble and a stronger tone.

I use the Duncan Custom Shop alnico 5 Tele ala Strat Tele neck pickup and the Fralin Blues Special and Stock Tele neck pickups....all are alnico 5.

I've heard good things about the Duncan Tele Vintage neck and Hot neck too...both are also alnico 5. I'm gong to try those in my Fender James Burton Tele with the Jerry Donahue bridge pickup soon... just so I know what they sound like.

I love the JD in that guitar!

I agree with Lew. I had an Alnico II Pro Tele neck pickup in a poplar body Tele. It was way too soft and dark. I put a DiMarzio Twang King in there and it just howed with delight. With all due respect to the Duncan company and Seymour himself, I think that as far as single coils go, the DiMarzio Twang king is the best out there.
