White lithium grease...

Is this essentially the same stuff used in the gears of Wahs, and can I also use it in the gears of non-die cast (stamped) machine heads?

yep, I think you'd be okay. that stuff just gets every where, right? Little to none is best. Are you talking about those open gear waverly style tuners?

Actually, the tuners are I am referring to are old Fender Strat machine heads from the 70's.

Silicone grease would work well too. It's real heavy, and it would prolly stay put wherever you put it. The lithium greases tend to get rancid over time, quicker than other types.
