my amp is giving me A LOT of white noise and i am wondering if it was the v5 phase splitter. it still plays but there's a lot of backround noise. it's not the guitar or the cables because it happens with all of my guitars and 3 different cables

Re: white noise!

try turning the whole thing on and lightly tapping the tubes with a pencil. see if one makes more noise than the others.

crackling could be moisture as well

with a guitar plugged in or just w/ it on. would it be power or pre??

Re: white noise!

shouldnt need a guitar plugged in. id test them all, honestly im not sure if its a tube problem but its worth a check

there's a POWER tube that glows a BRIGHT orange and it makes a lot of noise when i tap it. could this be it?

Re: white noise!

after reading the manual it's probably that power tube. it makes noise when hit and is bright orange. i think it's the culprit. looks like i'll have to wait until christmas until i can replace these babies

Re: white noise!

That orange-red is called red-plating---don't run the amp with those tubes in it. Take it to a tech to check the screen resistors and the bias circuit before you install new tubes or the new ones may turn a nice X-masy orange too.

Re: white noise!
