White? Really?

Re: White? Really?

If I were to buy an SG (and I may very well do that someday), it would be white. Black would be my second choice.

I really dig the look of the one posted.

Re: White? Really?

White with the half pickguard is my favorite SG color. There was a lead player in a band from my youth that had one. Sweet guitar.

That's the 'angel wing' (small) versus the 'bat wing' (large) pickguard. I prefer the angel wing, but the bat wing is nice on occasion for variety.

But stinks for pickup changes since you've got to remove the thumbwheels on the TOM to pull the pickguard off. Which means every pickup change requires a setup - a minimal one, sure, but still... and I know, because I just did it.

Re: White? Really?

^ yeah but setting up a guitar with a tune-o-matic bridge is **** near effortless...and i mean if you're gonna have the guitar gutted and on the bench anyway, you might as well spend a couple seconds trying to maximize playability...

+1

I like the batwing guard better on black SGs but not red ones. That guitar looks pretty good with it, though I might go with a pearloid guard if it was my guitar. Alpine white is a pretty modern looking colour which to me complements the batwing guard. An aged white is a completely different matter though.

+1. It is a definite drawback to the bat wings. I've got an ebony Epi '66 SG Std, that not only do I have to take the thumbwheels off, but I also had to pry out the metal anchors in the body that the thumbwheels screw into, in order to remove the pickguard and get at the PU's. And of course, after I upgraded the PU's and put it all back together, I decided they both really needed mag swaps...

Re: White? Really?

White works best on the 3-pu Supreme with gold and no guard. I agree it doesn't work with the black guard.
