Re: white wedding

Your timing is way off on that. I think if you were on time with the vocals, it would help you better with you breathing. Just my opinion.

Re: white wedding

On the surface, Idol's vocal delivery may seem contrived but his timing and emphasis are spot on.

If you could see the original recording's multitrack audio on a computer screen, you will probably find that Idol is fractionally ahead of the beat whereas as you consistently sing somewhat behind it. This is what creates the urgency and a sense of conviction in the original.

Re: white wedding

Your overall performance would improve if you "owned" or "inhabited" the song instead of constantly comparing yourself to the original recording. Make it your own. Sing it your way, as if there is no other version in existence.

The analogue I would draw here (no pun intended) is the difference between an original artwork and a tracing. An original displays a boldness of stroke that, in having to follow, a tracing never can.

Re: white wedding

I agree! I just watched both melissa cross videos and she and the famous singer/screamers said the same exact thing

not sure how to own it better but Im tryin, thanks for the heads up

Re: white wedding

However, I would love to hang out with you, get all fukked up, and play a bunch of leads on your own personal music. Your own music is fantastic!! The only reason I can see you singing on all the covers is to maybe improve your voice for your own music. If that's the case, then I disagree. Sing your voice on your own badass si!t!! Cause it rocks.

that sounds cool brutha! I need to do that, it would be cool to hang out and get you to solo like that! I do like singing covers and it is easier but I need to dust off my recording gear and write a guitar song, I haven't done that in 12 months. rock on!!! :headbang:

Re: white wedding

Take yo' lyrics notebook(s) too. Co-write something.

Re: white wedding

So Billy's stuff is a little tricky to nail for a few reasons but they always mess with the speed of the recordings to get his voice to sound the way he wanted.

Like they'd record it at speed and then they would slow it down some small amount to get that deep sound and with that some inflections that are near impossible to nail casually.

If you like what Billy does get Iggy's Instinct album and work with the songs on there. Iggy's voice control on that album is crazy.

Re: white wedding

Yup, dragging behind big time. Vocals are also way too loud.

As said above and before, sing it like you.

Re: white wedding

Ron, it sounds (and looks) like the vocal is lagging behind the music because of the effort and time you are putting into trying to create a certain character with your voice.

I am undoubtedly only echoing what others have said in various ways in their posts on some of your other vocal video threads. Let the angst of the lyrics sink in, get in the groove with the music, and you will find that your natural voice will have a rich character all its own and will deliver the song much more powerfully than you can with any contrived vocal style.

thanks friend, Ill look into that, I never try to nail what they are doing in my covers but instinctively am copying them somehow as I am in the learning phase

THanks friend for confirming, I think I need to really work on original stuff and develop that "sing it like you" stuff cause I do not try to copy but end up copying. I thought this one would be different since I used a ton more vocal distortion but ya somehow it is off

thats cool man, I dont want the contrived vocal style I think yall are hitting it dead on. I need to work on my solo stuff. right now I just joined a doom band as guitarist and am working on melissa cross techniques so I dont blow out my voice with consonant and breath issues but I hope to get to my solo stuff at one point. Im gonna lay off the cover videos for awhile at any rate. thanks for the insights, cheers :beerchug:
