Who buys Ibanez amps?

They must sell some since they continue to make them, but I don't think I've ever, ever heard anyone in these forums say something like . . . "whoa . . . my new Ibby amp sounds killer." Or . . . "how can I cop that great Ibby amp tone?" :D

There's no "Ibanez" setting on any of my modelers. Who buys these things?

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

Beginners mostly. I had a Tone Blaster. Those things suck. I heard that they do have one nice one though. I forget what it's called.

Thermion? That's the all-tube head that Ibanez was raving about a year or two ago.

I never thought much of amps made my a company that primarily makes guitars and basses (and I guess effects), unless we're talking about Fender. Most of the time, the amps are just made for beginners, like Timorousme said.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

My 10 watt amp has a killer clean. I took it apart and poked it with a screwdriver in the wrong place, resulting in me getting blown across the room and a great hendrix clean tone thereafter...

That seems like a fun game. Poke the amp with a screwdriver and see who gets blown the most distance... Or who dies. Whichever.

Yea, that's it. It got good reviews, but I wouldn't touch another Ibanez amp after my last one.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

the new generation of ToneBlasters (TBX) has a revised gain, EQ & drive voicings. they sound much better than the previous incarnation especially drive-wise.

there are no modeller settings for Soldano/ ENGL/ Diezel amps, among others, as well but we know they are killer tone generators.

the small ValBee tube combo is also a good practice unit to own; i have no regrets buying one:

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

the big half stack is a practice room mainstay around me..

they sound average, but they're loud, cheap and they seem to hold together pretty well! i'm always got there earlier than anyone else and poached a JCM800 or a 5150 though ;)

??? Line 6 models all 3 of those

I have a Ibanez soundwave 65 Bass combo amp I bought it just for recording bass parts and songwriting, in its price range it was the only combo with a 12" speaker and the only one that could handle the 5th string without farting out. I test drove Peavy,Roland, fender and SWR before going withe the Ibby

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

Yeah, pretty much every modeling amp has a setting called "Modern Hi Gain" which is the Soldano SLO100. My V-Amp2 has an Engl (Savage I think?), also, and the Line 6 model pack has a Diezel or two.

If I wanted an inexpensive half-stack to run a modeler into, I'd definitely check out the Ibanez offerings.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

For a company who's renowned for their cheapassness, I can't imagine the parts in their amps are all top-quality :laugh2: Surprisingly enough, tama kicks ass, weird how that works.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

I somehow feel this thread is directed towards me, as my toneblaster is the only amp I got:firedevil. Almost has never been used since I got it when I first started playing. So untill I got the scratch saved up for a jcm 800/celtic/bogner, not to mention find a place where I could use said amp, my pod xtl will have to do.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

It's like crate...when I first started playing a crate 25 watter was my main, and only amp. Took me about two years after that to upgrade.

Its something to start out with. Though I suppose there are better choices out there...

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

I had a Valbee 5w and considering the price, the fact that it was a tube amp, and its size it was a great purchase. Sturdy little amp, great range of tones(especially the cleans and natural OD sounds) and very easy to carry around.
Only got rid of it because my Engl Sovereign surprised me by sounding great at low volumes and because i need new armour.

In my city (Port Elizabeth) back home, the younger guys go for either the Peavey's, or if they have more money to blow, they (lately) go for the THERMION !

I have only heard one at very low volume, but the gain did sound good ( for a metal tone that is) to my ears !
Still, i think they are too expensive in the US !
For the same money you can get a 5150 or simmilar :scratchch

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

Granted guys, I've never tried a Thermion myself, but if it's all tube I figure it has to be at least decent.

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

I have an old Ibanez GT10DX. it's a nice little practice amp. the clean is great and the distortion is kinda bluesy actually. it takes pedals real well (all but my metal muff for some reason). It fits the bill when I can't use my 1/4 stack

Re: Who buys Ibanez amps?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just wondering. They just don't seem to come up in conversation very often. (Never, actually.)
