Who gigs with a lower end axe?

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

My 249.00 tokai Tele is # 1
I have gigged a bunch with Squiers
I tend to use 200.00 amps these days too.

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

well, my strat i got free and my ec-1000 i got for $600 including case new...so basically, yes, i gig with gear less than $500.

my acoustic was also less than $500....

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

I gig with my Squire 57RI (179), my Oscar Schmidt OE-30 (149), a J. Reynolds strat (99), a parts-o-caster (150), my marlboro acoustic (5000 marlboro miles, plus 50 bucks), and my 52 Gibby ES-125 (150 or so, new in 52)

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

me and tons of people i know gig with LTDs. hell, Metallica uses LTDs live a lot

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

I gig with an Aria pro11 Thorsound (?uros200) that is unmodded except for an ibanez trem that I installed (it's made of plasticene and is total crap but it works - just) and two Aria Legends (both cost £120 from the same 2nd hand music shop in Brighton) which I eventually modded (after gigging standard for a year) with Duncans, Wilkinson replacement trems and sperzels cos the basic guitars are so nice and cost sweet FA. Amazing company at that time (I think late 80s) and perfectly made set neck guitars.
I've used others, but my main guitar is a Redding Custom Whorl with JB neck, S Demon Bridge, Fishman and GK Roland - the original price was £250 from the Luthier Peter Redding- but that was 30 years ago, so it was a bloody arm and a leg at the time!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

Up until I bought my LP in 2002, I never paid more than $400 for any instrument that I gigged with, the $400 was for my "wife", a '78 SG Standard. My main live SG I picked up for $175 (yes, it's a Gibson), my strat was a MIM for $300, the bastardcaster (Tele) was $250, the Dean Z was $200, the Washburn Falcon was $250, and the V was $300. I put more money into them rebuilding and refining, but all of those instruments have seen a lot of live time.

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

I think i may gig with the cheapest guitar here. Ibanez RG120 with a JB in the bridge and Duncan Designed in the neck. Straplocks, that's it. Piece of crap.

YOU **** !!

I'm not sure what you said, but thanks. It's more of a player, I could probably only catch about 400 for it, since it's not a high profile guitar.

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

Ive played all my gigs with my Kramer. After changing the bridge (buzzy intonation screw retainer wire) and electronics (took out tone to have 2 volumes, switch was unreliable and Epiphone) it is a solid player. Havent swapped out the Quadrails that came stock since i think they sound good to me (will probably get duncans in future:)). After all this the guitar has cost about £200. Cost me £160 to get it to my door from Musicyo.com

:smack:

I've done the past 2 gigs with my RS 530 which cost £180 (about $350)... very solid axe (japanese model)

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

Me? It all began with $137.50.

Enter SD. HRn/CR/HRb. Then Ping tuners. Then a new 5-way pup selector. Then 500k push/pull pots. Then a new Fender pickguard. Then new knobs. Currently looking into Graphtec saddles.

The 12-year old Chinese kid who built it did a good job....

Re: Who gigs with a lower end axe?

I gig with an Ibanez RG 270DX and it's a decent guitar. It's also my only guitar until I saved up enough for a high end axe.
I think cheap guitars are nice for on stage, once modded and set up right they can sound pretty good with a good amp. Also you don't have to worry as much if it gets damaged or dirty.
