Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I'm totally unsatisfied with the $10 crappola speakers that my computer at home has. At work, they're better, but still $15 junk....still they're good enough.

I want my home computer to have awesome quality sound, and went to the store and checked out some new Phillips speakers w/subwoofer for $70, but didn't get anything yet. Any suggestions for nice one's that are readily available at Circuit City, Best Buy, Fry's etc?

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I have a creative setup that sounds quite nice... Only cost about 50 dollars on sale.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

**** computer speakers! My G5 is connected to my mixer, into my Dynaudio B6 studio monitors.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

My KRK's are connected to my computer! Using this thing called wavedriver any sound can come out of my computer VIA my M-Box to my monitors.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

Logitech or creative speakers are pretty good. Get something THX if you want loud and high quality speakers.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I've got a set of Roland MA-8 hooked up to mine. They are cheap as far as studio monitors got, but they kick for playing music. Each speaker has a built-in subwoofer, a 10cm speaker and a 4.7cm tweeter, bass, treble, and volume controls. It's also got a mic in....you can play your guitar through it!

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I saw the Logitech's. They looked pretty good. They're $60.

I don't use my computer for my recording setup, so my studio monitors are in another room. Plus, how do you connect 1/4" studio plugs to a computer?
Don't I need USB connection?

1/4 to 1/8 adapter. Right into the headphone out on your soundcard.:)
I have JBL speakers that have a headphone jack built in. You should be able to find the adapter in circuit Chity or best buys. If not? Radio shack has em'.

My PC sound system is:

PC > Audio Research tube preamp > VTL tube mono blocks > Sonus Faber Minima 2-way monitors

GJ, you should look into the ZVex iMP power amp for desktop listening. You would need to just add loudpseakers. It's only 1wpc, but it's a great all-tube amp for desktop listening situations.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I know a guy that's got a pair of Altecs that fit in a vinyl case for his laptop. They sounded better than most of the ones they have to try out at Best Buy and the others. He had the new Doobie Brothers DVD going and it sounded like you were listening to it on a home theater. I wish I knew what model they were. My guess is that they're their top model. This guy is loaded and usually doesn't spare any expense.

I doubt you'll go wrong with Klipsch stuff, either. They make some of the best stereo equipment on the market.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

i run a wire from my speaker jack to the clean channel of my peavey Rage 158 and piss of my friend who got a 500 dollar spealer system and still cant get the volumes i get :D

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

Anything with a sub will be a world of difference. We have a 30.00 set of speakers but with the sub they sound great. Makes listening so much better. Most desktop speakers alone are just thin and have horrible scratchy treble. I don't even know what brand these are.... They have worked great for over a year now.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I recently got a set of Altec Lansing MX5021's (THX 2.1) and I'm digging them so far.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I would go for a nice set of Klipsch speakers.

Re: Who has a nice computer speaker monitor setup?

I've got some Event powered nearfield monitors hooked up to my computer.

I've noticed that the biggest aftermarket brand seems to be Logitech. There's liquidators on Ebay selling them for half what they cost at the stores. I only want to spend about $35-$40, so these may be the ones to consider.
