Who Here Is Running WGS Green Beret Speakers In Their Cabinets?

I would like to know your opinion of them, please. I've got quite a few cabinets that I need to replace the stock speakers in. I'm not too fond of the 70/80 Celestions in my Blackstar cabinets nor the stock Eminence speakers in my Jet City cabinets. The 70/80 speakers seem too fizzy with my Blackstar S1 104el34 head, and the Eminence speakers sound too woofy with my Jet City JCA 100HDM. I did a search for them, but didn't exactly find what I was looking for. I've got a line on 4 for $150, and I figured that was a really good deal. I've really never had any cabinets with greenbacks, but I've always liked the tone from people I knew that said they had the Celestions in their cabinets. Also, what would be a good pair of speakers to mix and match with said green berets in a 4x12 cabinet, Vintage 30 clone? Thanks!!

Seems like a good deal, I've never used greenbacks or greenback clones, but I do like WGS speakers, I have a Veteran 30 and ET65 in a 2x12 and they sound great and haven't had any reliability issues

Invaders but not Green Berets. I have owned Greenbacks. The Invaders are sort of similar but not the same. The Green Berets will be even more similar but I cant offer a more direct opinion since I haven't owned the Green Berets. That is a real good deal on the Green Berets.

I am not a fan. I vastly prefer the Celestion EVH/eritage among new speakers. I do like the MIC Greenback Reissues better than the WGS too, though I think the EVH/eritage stomps both the MIC Celestion and the WGS. But for the money they are OK. They are more brittle and thinner sounding than either of the Celestions and get really fizzy, even for a G12m25.

I have a green beret, 16 ohms you can have John, if you wanna pay the shipping. I can get it out to ya next week if you wanna try it.

Booooooooo!! The story of my life, an hour late and a dollar short. The dude sold them this morning. Oh well....no biggie

You don't need to buy all at once. Just scour Craigslist every day, searching for V30's and 70th Ann. G12-H30's, and when you've got a bunch, start installing them. You can sell the stock stuff and recoup half later.

I know your sound, and think you'd be best off with those two models, mixed and matched.

I really like WGS. I'm using Retro 30s and Reaper HPs in an X pattern, and love em. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend WGS.

Good to know I'm not alone on the 70/80s.
A friend of mine has your same Blackstar cab with a Laney VH100 and it sounds like crap IMO.
Very poor definition, piercing and a very dull, uninspiring midrange. I swear I'd rather mike up my tiny 1x12 cab than play through that.

Re: Who Here Is Running WGS Green Beret Speakers In Their Cabinets?

I've owned both Green Berets and Greenbacks (G12M-25).

IMO, the actual greenbacks sound better. They're thicker sounding, the mid peak is lower in frequency, they give up crunch easier and due to the lower mid peak the crunch sounds different.
