I keepo hearing and reading that these are absolutely the best bang for the buck LP you can get hands down?

i need a mahogany/maple top les paul copy that has the trademark les paul tone (fat as all hell, barking, sustaining) for under $600?
I have my eye on this?

but all those specs and features for only $229? :saeek:
seems to good to be true

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

At that price, try to find an Edwards, Tokai (be careful, some are Korean), Burny, Greco, Orville.

An Agile might be the best bang-for-bucks, but 229 is pretty low, so the "bang" is pretty low too.

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

I own a AL-3000, i love this thing the ebony fretboard feels so much better than rosewood. I like the neck profile more than gibbys and epi's its more like a strat neck with a flat radius. It's not a gibson but its a nice guitar. And great bang for the buck, ive been thinking of picking up a 2500 for pickup experimentation.

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

I've got a 2500 model. They're great guitars for the money and great to upgrade too.

If you're gonna buy an Agile, i suggest buying the 3000 or 3500 models. The 2500 and 2800 both have maple necks and a thin veneer of a maple top. With the 3000M and the 3500 you get a full flame maple cap, mahogany neck, gotoh bridge, plus the same grovers and everything as the lower end models. So the higher end ones should be more faithfull to the Les Paul tone. There's even a 3500 model with seymour duncan jazz/59 pickups as stock, but this costs $600.

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

How about the SX LP-approximates? In the market for a cheap hunk of mahogany to retrofit with a couple of Duncan humbuckers, I've been looking at the $150 SX goldtop. I actually prefer SX' pointy cutaway to Agile's Bluesbird-style abbreviated one. The SX kinda has a mini-Byrdland look that I like.

I'm pretty sure the SX guitars are all mahogany, with no maple cap or veneer. That's fine with me, I prefer all-mahogany axes.

I've seen pretty much nothing but high praise for SX on HC, but I try not to put too much stock in that. Has anyone had any hands-on experience with the SX LP clones? Can anyone compare/contrast SX with Agile?

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

While plenty of people who have never played one say things like "You get what you pay for," I've never heard anyone who has actually touched one have anything bad to say about them. The worst criticism I've seen is "needs a setup out of the box."

There are plenty of other options in that price range, and really, even with a pickup swap it shouldn't take you $600 to get a great Agile.

Some people consel that it's important to move up from the base 2500 model, but I've had two of those and they were both great. I say, if you decide to go with an Agile, buy whichever model has the color option you want and work from there.

+1 Exactly man. If you want a name look elsewhere. If you want a good guitar at a great price look at agile.

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

Jumpmarine has a double cut away Agile LP and I have played it on a few ocasions and found it to be a very friendly guitar. New pups a must, but the finish and feel of it are great. I am planning on getting one soon.

Something you can check out is the old Electra's from the late 70's in to the 80's. I have one and it is a great playing guitar and not to expensive.

nothing bad to say about mine. the 2800 dlx with the swamp ash body. new pups are needed...but other than that its a great axe. :bigok: especially for the price!

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

I have an Agile 2500. I put a Bigsby on it and it is great! the neck is very comfy and everythings is great. I need to upgrage pickups and maybe pots but it is definitely worth the money. Go for it.

Also, SX are nowhere near as good as Agile. I would NEVER buy an SX. My friend bought an SX goldtop and it was barely playable. Not good. Go Agile.

Rock on.

the biggest problem i had with my sx was bad fretwork (they felt sharp on the edges to me), other than that it was a good guitar. I'd say they're about the same scale of quality to price except for that one thing

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

i have an sx strat and i love it. I like the pickups and the body resonates well, better than my standard telecaster, when the guitar is unplugged. The neck was cheaply put together, there were many bad fret edges, but not to the point where i cut myslelf, it was just uncomfortable. Also the nut was bad. But if you sand down the frets and replace the nut, which should cost less than 20 bucks, you have a guitar that is about the same as a standard MIM, for 120 bucks total. One thing i hate: the neck joint is a wierd size, so warmoth and mighty mite necks will not fit unless some routing is done

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

Hmmm one against, two in favor on the SX question. If it's just fret sticking out, no big deal. I live in Houston. With our humidity, the neck will swell well past the fret ends. :laugh2:

Babaca, what do you mean by "barely playable"?

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

Hey, Get a Michael Kelly Patriot Quilt Top LP. They are only 350 bucks are they sound great, are made very well, and look great. I"ve had one for awhile now and really dig it.

Re: Who here owns a AGILE les paul?

I have the doublecut model which I bought about a year ago. Like everyone else says, it'll need pup changes. I bought it cause it was cheap and I wanted something new to play with, but it has been collecting dust. The problem for me is the neck. The nut width is a little bit smaller than the usual 11/16" I'm used to on LPs and Fenders, blah blah. Doesn't seem so bad on paper but it's noticeable when playing open chords. Another thing is that the neck itself is too small. Not sure if it's like that with all Agiles since I had my eye on the doublecut and didn't bother to try out the others. It's too thin compared to the usual beefy Les Paul baseball bat necks, which I find are very comfortable. The neck on the agile is very very different, and it's been uncomfortable for me.
