Who makes good speakers for bass combos?
I am asking because I want to replace the speaker in my WEM Dominator Bass MK I. The original was a 15" Celestion, but it seems that they don't make these speakers anymore.

Re: Who makes good bass speakers?

What is in the amp now?

If I were putting a speaker in someting like that I'd try and go back with a Celestion...those amps are just too cool!

Re: Who makes good bass speakers?

It has the original Celestion in it, but it has quite a large tear in it. The amp still manages to sound great though. I've checked the Celestion website and I can't find any 15" speakers on there.

I would opt to get the original speaker reconed...It's not really gonna be a cheap way out as you will have to ship the speaker to a recone shop, pay for the recone and pay to have it shipped back to you but thats what I woudl do...they will remove the old cone and voice coil, clean the frame up and remove any trash in the voive coil area then completely rebuild your speaker...they you have a brand new, 30+ year old Celestion 15!

Re: Who makes good bass speakers?

Yeah, I probably will go down that route. Do you know of any people who make good bass speakers?

I live in England.
I think the actual amp is only 15 watt :smack:.
The Celestion in it is a 50 watt speaker.
I would want to be able to handle bass, but not so boomy that guitar wouldn't sound bad through it.

Thats gonna be tough...the days of low power bass amps are pretty much gone excpet in the student market and IMO those amps are just a joke, not to mention that almost none of them use a 15" speaker...making a good 15 hard to find.

If I were you I would either get that Celestion reconed or surf the net until I found another one just like it that was in better shape. If you want to get a new speaker look into an Emeinenceor possibly a Weber...prety much any 15 you can get will be able to handle the power (15 watts) and the low freq of a bass unless you're playing a 5 or 6 string...and if you are I wouldn't try playing it through a 15 watt, single 15, open back valve combo anyway!
