thanks for the info, guys
how is stacked single coils compared to mini humbuckers(especially duncans)?
I have used both only briefly and want to know what you guys think. I am looking for a smooth, open tone without the hum. From what I know about PU design, regular humbuckers are "dull" because they sense string vibration at two points. so you can either put them closer or stack them together. Am I comparing apples to oranges?

Regular humbuckers lack the sparkle and upper harmonics of single coils because the two coils in a humbucker are RW/RP relative to each other. That means that the harmonics in the 1" space between the two rows of polepieces are more or less cancelled. At least that's how Lindy Fralin explained it to me. Lew

ive tried the kinmans, i think the avn 56 and mkII. nice sound but too bright for my tastes. played them at a gig so i didnt have a chance to sit in a quiet room and play them but they were spanky as hell. as nice as they were, not my thing. i think he makes warmer sets that i might like better

i used to use duncan classic stacks and i still like those but the new duncan stack plus are relly nice. more open and tighter on the bottom end, more of a traditional brighter strat sound

I've never played a single coil stack which came anywhere near Kinmans. IMO, Kinmans are by far, the absolute best for Strat and Tele stacks. YMMV
