Re: Who runs Vettas here?
But aren't the great FX part of why you go with Line 6 over Vox?
I also get the impression Line 6 does better HIGH GAIN sounds.
I've got the Vetta I head with a Hughes & Kettner 4X12 (Celestion G12H80 or "Vetta" speakers) and it is phenomenal. Yes, I think it does the high gain stuff better, but with this new update the clean amps are so close to tube now. The "feel" has improved dramatically as well. I think the FX on the Vetta are just fine for what I do. I haven't had and don't need anything better really.
The only difference between the I and II is cosmetics. The II also comes stock with the connections in the back for the Variax guitar. You can add that to the I. They have the same power, same models and effects (after the upgrade) same everything. The Vetta I is usually referred to as the "Judge Dredd" looking head, LOL. Personally I like it better. I have the shortboard, which for me is fine cuz I just set it up to kick on and off a few of the effects and patch changes, but the longboard give you two pedals, not one, and many many more ways to control your sounds as far as live playing.
I've compared my Vetta to tube amps (71 Univox 50 watter, JCM800, Bassman, Champ) and if you have the sound you want to copy in front of you, it can come close. Funny thing is to get the JCM800 I used a plexi model and distortion box. Same for other amps I want to copy. I copied the sound of my 65 Champ with the Bassman model!
I haven't gigged with my Vetta, but I've jammed and with 300 watts (rated at 200, but it's 300 they say) I've always been the most powerful amp jamming. I haven't put it up against a 300 watt tube amp, but I'm sure the tube will smoke the modeling watts, but really, who used that much power unless you're playing a huge venue anyways? When I was like 20 and jamming, sure, but nobody could hear for days later, LOL.
I use my Vetta a lot with an A/B/Y box and a tube amp (The Univox). Talk about some killer sounds and tone.
P.S. I've got the Vox Valvetronix AD60VTX combo and a 2X12 as well and that's a killer amp as well. Has it's own sound but much fewer choices as far as amps and effects. I can say that I would be thrilled to be able to use either onstage. They are both that good. I also use that one with a tube amp as well (bassman clone and Plexitone or Vox Bulldog distortion) and OH MY GOD the tone is to die for.
Hope this helps brotha! :smokin:
