Who runs Vettas here?

Talk to me.

Differences between I & II, programming, pedal boards etc.

I am thinking Vetta and longboard trumps all my other configurations for gigging but does it work as well in practice as it does in theory.

I love the idea of going to a gig, plugging in and being all set. All my settings ready to go for me. I hate dragging around pedals, batteries, a ton of cables etc so while it may take a bit to initially get set up I love the idea of never having to do it again.

Re: Who runs Vettas here?

The only one I know of is Robb(GoMano).......I think.

Does Jolly have one too????

Re: Who runs Vettas here?

Now that they've depreciated down to around $1000, they're not a bad deal.
I see most people buying the Vetta 1, with all the available updates. I saw a cover band using them a few weeks ago, and it allowed them to nail the tones in all the songs they did.

I've messed with Vettas and keep thinking that the Vox modelers sound and feel a little more tube-like. You can get a Vox AD120VTH head pretty cheap nowadays, and IMO, the Vetta doesn't sound any better.......just more options and better FX.

Re: Who runs Vettas here?

But aren't the great FX part of why you go with Line 6 over Vox?

I also get the impression Line 6 does better HIGH GAIN sounds.

I've got the Vetta I head with a Hughes & Kettner 4X12 (Celestion G12H80 or "Vetta" speakers) and it is phenomenal. Yes, I think it does the high gain stuff better, but with this new update the clean amps are so close to tube now. The "feel" has improved dramatically as well. I think the FX on the Vetta are just fine for what I do. I haven't had and don't need anything better really.

The only difference between the I and II is cosmetics. The II also comes stock with the connections in the back for the Variax guitar. You can add that to the I. They have the same power, same models and effects (after the upgrade) same everything. The Vetta I is usually referred to as the "Judge Dredd" looking head, LOL. Personally I like it better. I have the shortboard, which for me is fine cuz I just set it up to kick on and off a few of the effects and patch changes, but the longboard give you two pedals, not one, and many many more ways to control your sounds as far as live playing.

I've compared my Vetta to tube amps (71 Univox 50 watter, JCM800, Bassman, Champ) and if you have the sound you want to copy in front of you, it can come close. Funny thing is to get the JCM800 I used a plexi model and distortion box. Same for other amps I want to copy. I copied the sound of my 65 Champ with the Bassman model!

I haven't gigged with my Vetta, but I've jammed and with 300 watts (rated at 200, but it's 300 they say) I've always been the most powerful amp jamming. I haven't put it up against a 300 watt tube amp, but I'm sure the tube will smoke the modeling watts, but really, who used that much power unless you're playing a huge venue anyways? When I was like 20 and jamming, sure, but nobody could hear for days later, LOL.

I use my Vetta a lot with an A/B/Y box and a tube amp (The Univox). Talk about some killer sounds and tone.

P.S. I've got the Vox Valvetronix AD60VTX combo and a 2X12 as well and that's a killer amp as well. Has it's own sound but much fewer choices as far as amps and effects. I can say that I would be thrilled to be able to use either onstage. They are both that good. I also use that one with a tube amp as well (bassman clone and Plexitone or Vox Bulldog distortion) and OH MY GOD the tone is to die for.

Hope this helps brotha! :smokin:

Re: Who runs Vettas here?

That Vetta also has the two amps at once feature which really makes for some unique and powerful patches.

Re: Who runs Vettas here?

Cool thanks, good info for me to use.

I like the Vox stuff a lot but Vox reliability always leaves me uncomfortable. Opening up and looking inside the Line 6 stuff appears to built to a much higher standard fwiw.

The effects on the Vetta and the options the longboard provides really make it a very compelling package. I saw a few of the Vetta I's going for very reasonable prices so I am really interested. I like the 2 amp thing in my Duoverb so I imagine with the Vetta programming I could do some really sick things.

75 do you use the PC to set the Vetta up?

TO
- sorry bro, I like tubes but I am far from a purist. I imagine once I get all this stuff squared away I'll start saving for my very own Celtic amp to balance things out.

I've heard horror stories about the Vettas as well so I would back up your patches on the computer. I've had mine for over two years with constant use and no problems. I guess the thing to remember is that we think of the Vetta as an amp, but it IS a computer as well and should be treated as such.

Now--I do not follow my own advice, LOL. I never back up my stuff nor do I program using the computer. They have something called workbench that really opens up the programming capabilities with this thing. I only use the computer to download the upgrades. It's pretty easy, PLUS the guys at "Institute of Noise" are a huge help with the Line 6 stuff--just like coming here and getting advice from the great people on this forum.

A word about the Variax. I wanted to buy one because of the unbelievable sounding acoustic models and different tuning options (without changing your tuning on the guitar--wow!) but it seems like you need to run the guitar more through a PA type system to get that great acoustic sound. I actually put one of my acoustics that has a pickup under the bridge through a Variax factory patch on my Vetta and it sounded great so....

Here's a link. Ask questions and check out all the forums. You can download and upload patches and sounds and everything.
