Who Uses Celestion G-12H30's Sell me on them.

My main amp setup right now is a Bogner Ecstasy on the Bogner large 2-12 with Vintage 30's, and it sounds great, but I'm thinking of mismatching my speakers, so the cab will have one Vin 30 and one Anniversary 30, the H30.
I remember when Hawkman was around, he had 2 Bogner 2-12s, and loaded one with Vin 30's and one with H30's, and he said the H30 cabinet was richer and sounded better, in general. I'm thinking of selling a Vin 30 for $75, and buying the other for $120. Should I do this? Anyone swear by the H30?

Thames shipped me an empty Trutone 2x12 with custom Weber speakers that are supposed to be built to the original g12h30 specs... I'll let you know how they sound once I get them, even though they ain't celestions.

I got 'em cuz I wanted a greenbackish, british tone with fuller bass and mids and I'm told from multiple sources here these are the best for what I want. We'll see.

They are Ken Fischer's favorite 12" speaker for a Deluxe Reverb Amp and mine too.

The G12H30 has smoother treble, more mids, deeper bass and a fuller tone than the Vintage 30.

The G12H30 has more bass, smoother highs, higher efficiency and a clearer, less honky tone than the G12M25 Greenback.

The G12H30 is my very favorite ceramic magnet celestion.

I've been told that the G12H30 is the speaker Hendrix used, though it seems that most of the old ones I see are from the early 70's, so I don't know if that's true or not.

The reissue has been a great speaker in just about any amp I've tried it with.

I have a V30/G12H30 combo in my cabinet, and absolutely love it. As you can gather from Lew's post, you get superior mids from the V30 and lovely highs and lows from the G12. It's an excellent combination of speakers that compliment one another very very well.

I'm using a G-12H30 and a V30 in a custom open-back 2x12 right now. They are both excellent sounding speakers on their own, but the G12H30 is warm where the V30 is harsh, and the V30 is crisp where the G12G30 is mushy. I think it's an amazing combo.

ive been using the g12h for years. my first marshall 4x12 had em and ive loved em ever since. lews descriptions are good. solid bass, full mids, clear top that isnt to toppy. a g12h mixed with the v30 is my favorite combo.

Mine too. They compliment each other perfectly and though either is excellant alone, together they fill in what the other is missing a little of. Perfect!

I have both in different cabs. The G12h-30 feels like its mids peak in the lower mids, making it a bit thicker and warmer, whereas the v30 mids peak in the upper mids, which can make it have better definition and clarity but at the same time sound a bit harsh/ hard on the ear.
I am definitely a G12h-30 fan, but i can see why a combination would be a good move.

I use both the G12H 30s and the Vintage 30's...I wouldn't call the V30s harsh though...Prominent and strong but not harsh.. :smack:

Thanks for the feedback. This is the same stuff I've been hearing about these speakers. It looks like they cost about $120. I'm thinking I should buy it locally to avoid paying costly shipping. From what I gather, the H30 has an emphasis in the lower mids, similar to a Custom Custom, whereas the Vin 30 emphasizes the high mids, much like a JB.

you might check prices at Avatar Speakers - I think they're a little lower than $120. The Hellatones look interesting too, but I don't know anyone who's used them.

Another vote for the mixed V30 and G12H30 - I've been using an avatar cabinet for about two years (open backed) and it sounds better each time I use it.

I'm getting an 18 watt marshall handwired clone here in a couple of weeks, single twelve combo - it's being loaded with a Hellatone G12H30 (it's a G12 that's been cycled for 15 hours to break it in nicely - no chemical aging or magnet degaussing) they run $79.00 right now from avatar, includes shipping. If you loading up a cab to mix with speakers that are already broken in the Hellatone sounds like the way to go.

Yep, I just got pricing on those very speakers, $79 on the Vintage 30's, $84 on the G12H30's plus $8 shipping each.

Those Hellatones DO look interesting on the Avatar site. I wonder what sounds tighter and deeper, the H30 or the Hellatone?

GearJ, I've heard that combination in a 4x12 with a Roccaforte 80. Sounded killer! I personally am not a fan of straight V30's, but that combo had just the right amt of everything. Celestion does have the new G12H Heritage series. Not sure what that offers differently than the anniversary model. They also have a reissue of the 60's 20w coming soon too. Debuted at NAMM. I hear it was great!
