Who uses the Custom Custom?

Re: Who uses the Custom Custom?

The CC is for the Connesiour of Tone, hats off to Mr. Duncan for this great pup.:smokin:

Re: Who uses the Custom Custom?

It's one of the only pickups I absolutely must have in my collection. I have tons of guitars and I'm always trading pickups, but the CC stays put. It's in an Alder body/Maple neck & fretboard guitar, and that's where I like it best.

Me too, but I like the Brobucker in that body/neck combo more. Don't try it 'cause you'll never put the CC back. Don't say I didn't warn you. :D

Re: Who uses the Custom Custom?

I got my reverse zebra CC in my Epi LP paired up with a zebra PG in the neck. Absolutely beautiful! Make the best pair ever. The CC breathes fire, but doesn't fry everything in its path. It really drives the front of a tube amp, sounds great with 50s era Tweed or other amps (Gibsons etc) and Marshalls. It's just in my mind the best modern pickup ever (non-reissue/non-PAF clone etc).

Re: Who uses the Custom Custom?

The CC is in a league of it's own, and possibly the best sounding bridge humbucker ever made.

How bright or dark or whatever is it compared to a Custom 5?

Ok - that's entirely the wrong attitude -let me suggest the following instead:

I'm gonna go get a CC right now! or...

The CC sounds awesome -where can I get one?!?!? or....

I can't believe I don't have one yet! What's Lew's number???

It's less boomy, less trebley, and much smoother sounding than the custom V. The V is glassy like a 59. Usually the V produces a more scooped sound, too much in my opinion.

I'm really digging the custom custom in my strat now. I have had a hard time finding a pup to make that guitar sound good, the custom custom did it. I'm really digging it.

Or in my case.. how the hell do I switch magnets without breaking something?

Easy, remove the four brass screws on the back of the pup. Expose the magnet on either short side of the pickup. Gently push the magnet on the side where the pickup leads are being careful to not hurt or pull the leads.

Important note about magnet polarity, take the new mag (before removing the one in the pickup) and touch one of the short sides on the short side of the mag in the pickup. If they attract, they are opposite poles and this will need to be pushed in the pickup (after you remove the old one) with the exact same orientation. If they push away, they are the same poles and you will need to flip the mag till the ends attract.
