Whoa

Re: Whoa

That B/G Bender Paul is awesome. But it is SOOOOO UGLY. I'd get one once they turn up on the used market, and do some significant cosmetic changes to it. The dark headstock with the maple board, the pickguard, and the clear finish look horrible. I'd take that sucker apart, put on a maple headstock overlay, fill the pick guard holes, and then paint it a solid color and install a regular Special guard. Oh, yeah, and regular P90's, not the stacks that it comes with. I would also switch to an SG Standard control layout.

Re: Whoa

Or.. buy the guitar you actually want instead?

Well, duh :D...but it doesn't exist. Factory installed B Bender on a Gibson Les Paul Junior or Special? This is the closest one can get. It's a guitar with very good potential, but it's cosmetically repulsive to me. Modding it to taste wouldn't be hard or expensive...but it would be the reason I would not buy one new, only used. Same logic I use with most mods. Get something that is basically what you want in all the important ways that you can't change, and turn it into exactly what you want in regards to the details that you can change.

Re: Whoa

I've never cared for SG's in the past. But with the ones that some you have been posting pics of since I've been on the forum, I'm starting to like them. The ash bodied thing I like. Would be interesting to see it with an ebony, rose, pufero, or cocobola board and may be a maple face on the peg head. A departed friend on mine had a guitar that looked similar. It was an all maple solid body with an ebony FB and two HB's. I think it was called an L-5. Not to confuse it with an L-5 hollow body. They are two all together different critters.
