WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

Here's my problem with this. Fisher designed the Komet amps. He spec'd all the parts that go into them. He specs the entire project (allegedly, but I believe it). The guys in Louisiana build them up nicely.

This might have been a prototype or something along those lines, but I just have a hard time believing that he stuffed them with "trainwreck parts" or whatever BS this guy is pushing. What the heck is a "trainwreck part"? trainwreck was what was between Ken's ears. He used great parts, no doubt, but there is no way the guys at Komet aren't also using great parts which were prescribed by Dr. Ken.

Save your money, or buy 4 "regular" Komets. I bet they dont' sound $12K worth of difference.

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

Yeah I saw that last week. It sounds a little strange to me. I don't think Mark Knoplers Komet is probably much different than the ones that Komet builds, the 2 basic differences in why his sounds so good is he is playing a 1958 Les Paul Thru it and HE is playing it. Crap he could make a Gorilla amp sound amazing!

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

I like the shot of all three heads sitting on a table saw in a dusty woodshop...

Great.

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

from what i read from ken about the komet, i dont think he would build one with 'reck parts. he didnt even use the same wire

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

This makes a regularly priced one seem like a bargain at $3200!!!

I like Komets a lot. They're great amps, but where do they get these prices?? Do they pull a number out of a magic hat?

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

When the magic hat makes it round these parts, wait till you see the new Celtic prices. :)

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

Scott, you should price all your amps at $15,000 on Ebay, and have a party everytime some jackass hits BIN. haha It'll be like hitting the lottery 2 or 3 times per year!

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

It is pretty well known that Ken did build and mod several Komet amps for people...it was much easier for Ken to mod and do custom voicing work on already made amps than it was to build amps from scratch.

Do I think that amp is worth 12k...no I don't and Ken wouldn't either, truth is, not many (if any) amps are...as far as the prices of a "normal" Komet go...I don't think they are out of line. It was designed by one of the greatest tube amp designers of our time, it's built by some of the best amp builders of our time and uses the best parts and techniques available today.

Re: WHOAH!...ebay Ken Fisher tweaked Komet

Wasn't Ken all about "affordability" with his tube amps when he was alive? The regular production Komets are a bargain in comparison to this "tweaked" version. I can't see a few tweaks to the circuit making a 10k difference, maybe to the right person, but I just don't get it.
