Who'd've thunk it??

25's Nemesis
Hello all.

One of my more recent acquisitions has been a MIJ Fender Floyd Rose Squier Series Strat. I bought it in less-than perfect condition, but, I can't resist a 90's MIJ Fender, especially when it's almost a twin (finish-wise) to my MIJ '62RI Foto-flame strat. I don't have a lot of experience witb floyd rose strats, with my only other floyded guitar being a Godin SD. I initially wanted to install a 3 single coil pickguard so I could wire up a trio of lace sensor pickups.

I've recently decided to (temporarily) install a CC/APHn combo I have laying about. I have yet to purchase either a HH or SSS pickguard for this guitar.

This is where I started getting surprised.

I understand that a SSS pickguard cut out for a strat with a floyd isn't the most common thing in the world, so custom pickguard work is most likely necessary.

What I did *not* expect was how rare and expensive HH pickguards are for floyded strats. I can get a HSS pickguard that theoretically fits my guitar, but a HH 'guard starts off at 30-something bones (warmoth).

Am I the only cat out here trying to build a dual humbucker, 11-screw strat with a Floyd?

I don't even want crazy colors. A mint or parchment pickguard would go well (I think) with a red foto-flame finish, a black trembucker, a zebra neck humbucker, and chrome dome knobs.

How does the CC/APHn sound in there? That is my favorite combo with a Strat, but I never tried it with a Floyd.

i usually get my guards from warmoth so thats what i used to paying. betcha thats a good sounding setup. i have an old mij squier too, a contemporary hh though so its short scale and has a traditional trem. great guitar though

Don't know yet. I'm waiting on a pickguard from Warmoth.

I had that combo in an maple/ebony carvin with a floating Wilkinson. It was very mid forward with good sparkle in the top end, probably from all the maple and ebony. I have a feeling it'll sound good in this strat as well.

I guess I got spoiled by the cheaper guards in more common configurations.

As far as MIJ Fenders...they're the best. I've never played one that I didn't like.

No, I'm doing Floyded strats as well.

I'm sad to hear this as I'd like a Floyded HH or HS guard as well. I have HSS I bought cheap in black, white and mint.

As I looked at the Floyded guards compared to regular, it "looks" like you could mod a regular guard into a Floyd guard. I may go that route.

HS pickguards for floyd strats are cheap as hell on fleabay as long as you don't pick a crazy finish.

I'd go that route, but I feel that the CC is too hot for the singles I have and I kind of want to build with what I have on hand at the moment, save for maybe a superswitch.
