Whole lotta humbucker vs Jazz neck

I'm looking for a neck pickup in my SG to pair with the SH-5. My other 2 SGs have alnico 2 magnets so I'm really looking for a alnico 5 neck to have something different. I've kinda narrowed it down to either the jazz or wlh. Which one do y'all think?

What kind of music are you playing with it?

Re: Whole lotta humbucker vs Jazz neck

You want something excellent but different, go Bill Lawrence L500XL bridge and L500C neck will sound phenomenal in a quality guitar. Uber transparent, high output, dynamic, and versatile.

But of the two you listed, I'd say the WLH is the better of the two for what you are looking for, unless you need the clarity and brightness of the Jazz.

I'd select the '59 here, as it is an excellent classic rock pickup, yet it is something that Dimebag used in the neck position, too.

Jazz, its clearer, more frequency range to work with. WLH is softer/rounder/warmer. IME

I have a WLH set in my PRS McCarty and a Jazz in the neck of my Fret-King Esprit 5. The brighter Jazz works well in the all mahogany Esprit, paired with a '59/C Hybrid, and the warmer WLH pickup plays nicely with the mahogany/maple top of the McCarty.

Jazz, 59, or WLH will all work just fine in an SG with an SH5 in the bridge for the music you play. Another good option might be the unfortunately named Screamin' Demon.

I know I really wasn't wanting an alnico 2 in this guitar, but I wonder how the Slash neck would pair with the Sh-5? If it would work it would give me the best of both worlds. I could play my heavier stuff on the bridge and switch to the neck for everything from blues to g-n-r. Especially since Slash used his neck pickup most of the time anyway.

Try it, what's the worst that could happen?

I think it would be good. You'd lose the tight lows going to the neck pickup, but you'd gain a sound that is pretty much like a stick of butter in aural form. That can't be bad.
