Who's going to the NY/NJ amp show? June 5-6

Re: Who's going to the NY/NJ amp show? June 5-6

Moose, while I appreciate your opinion. I just want to set the record straight again....I make speaker cabinets, not amps, hence I'm not there to display other peoples amplifiers. The only reason the Bruno was out was because I make custom headshells for them. The only reason the Surreal was out was because it belonged to someone else (Bud) and he wanted to hear his amp through the cabinets. Mind you, Bud stayed in our room for over an hour and absolutely loved the cabinets and wants some, and mind you we really liked his Surreal head too :) And the only reason the Emery Sound amps were there was because I was also displaying for Curt Emery, and they are great little amps.

If you didn't think the cabinets sounded good, I'd gladly respect your opinion (although think you insane :) ) But please don't insinuate that top quality hardwoods, the best speaker drivers, and great craftsmanship need trickery to sound good. The notion is really rather ridiculous, but I'm sure & hope that the rest of the fellows here realize that as well.

If anyone has any questions at all please feel free to contact me directly through the www.kwcabs.com website or through private message. I've worked for the last 7 years with each and every customer to create their ideal tone as best as possible, and haven't let anyone down yet.

I don't honestly recall expressing an opinion on sound one way or the other...

My only point was on the approach you took to displaying stuff in the room.

My buddy and I poked in, mostly because of the orange plexi head (ooh, whats that?!) and walked out wondering what in the hell we had just witnessed.

It seemed like the guy was plugged into the amp but the change in sound was radical, and then we saw the rack buried away like a dead body quite literally as we were stepping out the door.

Was the head running into a Palmer box and then some sort of EQ??

We had no idea... but it didn't make a positive impression and pretty much vibed us out.

Sometimes you don't buy the car, you buy the salesman.

Like I said, I'm sure you're a nice guy and those are probably some cool cabs but you had two serious players walk in and walk out saying F that in about three minutes flat. Not that we would've spent more time in the room or bought a cab anyway... but not really the point here.

Peace & good happiness stuff,

I thought the 4x12 sounded great.

Well thanks very much. It is a great 4x12, Flame Maple & Padauk. It was loaded with 2 Vintage 30s and 2 G1230 Anniversarys. For the most part we were playing a Voodoo Modded Marshall Superlead though that bad boy and it was cranken. The greatest thing about the 4x12 is that there is not 1 resonant note in the particular cabinet. So you never have that 1 power chord or note that booms out.

That particular cabinet had some tiny finish flaws (really need to be looking for them and only a foot or so away) and was for sale at the show at a blow out price, $1399 if I recall. It's still available, and will be up on the gear specials section of the site soon. Great cabinet, but the trend for many players has been to go smaller.

Thanks again.

All I can say is you should have asked if you had questions instead of suggesting to the public that there is something afoot. Perhaps you have preferred me to leave the rack in the middle of room for everyone to play with the buttons :) But seriously, once again, I am there to display cabinets not amps, we had many, and many were out front, but fact of the matter is, the room space is limited, and not everything needs to be there for distraction. As I said, you're perfectly welcome to your opinion, but if you're at the NY Amp show next year or any others for that matter, why don't you come in and actually take a look and ask questions, it's more productive for everyone.

I work with each and every customer as closely as possible to attain their ideal cabinet. And all I can say is 7 years in business and not 1 complaint...ever...Customer satisfaction is absolutely paramount for my business. Thanks again.

Hi guys jerry from Surreal here.
I see Bud brought his amp to the show. If there are any questions about if please contact me. thanx. First post.

Hi Jerry, I saw some vids of your amps! The high gain was the best! And the cleans impressed me as well! We have to talk sometime soon!

Re: Who's going to the NY/NJ amp show? June 5-6

Thank you. Lots of new developments. I have a new little HD camera so some new vids will be up soon. Im working for Mark Cameron on the side and he has agreed to do a Surreal "Cameron Lead Channel 100" I also have some options for your clean channel. The latest is like a Vox AC30 Top Boost feeding into a standard el34 based power section. Its a cool hybrid. Mark really liked it. He said it was trainwreck-ish. I have a higher gain version of the CM50 as well now with 6l6 (or whatever you want really) for a more modern sound. Another guy ordered one just like Buds. I never thought I would sell and orange amp but I guess people dig the orange..

Hello Jerry too. John (ampswitcher) and I were both impressed with your amp. Bud really loves it too. Lots of tonal variation. And that's great that you working with Cameron, he makes great stuff too!

I'm curious, since I didn't look inside, do you do all point to point or do you use PCBs or a combination? I might be curious in a custom unit it the future myself.

Also, if you ever have the need to do any hardwood headshells let me know, they've really become popular lately and I've been busy with them. My contact info is on my site. www.kwcabs.com Thanks.

Re: Who's going to the NY/NJ amp show? June 5-6

its all built on custom tag boards Mojo did for me. Like turret strip style. Pretty much point to point, there is a lot of sheilded cable in there so the purists would say no. lol . The cabs look great. I am friends with the Red Jones wood junky Todd so that end of it is pretty much covered. We are going to do some fancy wood ones. He lives in the same city as I do. thanks again sir.
