Who's modding cheap guitars?

Re: Who's modding cheap guitars?

I heavily modified my MIM telecaster. It has a natural finish, ash body (no veneers - I checked), and I added a RWRP middle telecaster neck pickup to it. Each pickup has an on/off/out-of-phase switch that I now wired in parallel instead of series. The other controls are a volume, tone, and control bypass switch that goes straight to the jack. This is an old (crappy) picture. I should really take a new picture/update it. This guitar is also becoming in need of a fret job, and I think I'll just replace them for stainless steel 6100's.

Otherwise I have an LTD M-100FM that I modified to have all kinds of switches. All the switches are disconnected now, but they look cool. It has a Custom Custom bridge and Jazz neck at the moment. I've always wanted to try a scalloped fretboard, so maybe this one could be my guinea pig. I'd refret with again, stainless steel 6100's first, because I don't even want to think of re-fretting a scalloped neck down the road.

Re: Who's modding cheap guitars?

Whats up guys? I'm curious as to who has taken a cheapo guitar or a beater and turned the unassuming chunk of wood into a contender. Thought popped into my head while cleaning the guitar room and finding an epi lp junior I forgot I had.

Ps: feel free to post pics of your hard work.

I don't have a picture of it as my dad liked it so much it got sequestered–I took a cheap basswood Ibanez Iceman and put a Seymour Duncan SH-12 in the bridge and a Dimarzio Liquifire in the neck...one of the best pickup combinations I've ever used and one of the best sounding guitars I've played. Even though they are two different brands, the two pickups blend so well together. I actually paid more for the pickups than I did for the guitar!
