Re: Who's working on a build right now? Let's see your stuff!

love the top, is that stained ash or oak? Almost looks like Zebrawood with a different figuring

That is a 2 piece ol re-claimed pine of some sort............I "smoke" these......just a bit of burn, brings out the pitch/sap stuff, sand back the grains, makes for some good builds.
I get the "stain" from a combo of the smoke and a Boiled Linseed + the sanding to achieve the "look". Thanks !!

Got most of the parts for this guy... Trying to decide whether I want to route it for the neck humbucker or leave it as an esquire. Body is swamp ash, neck is warmth 59 round back with their 10-16" compound radius.

Edit: the humbucker is missing pole pieces because I'm experimenting with using alnico slugs in a traditional humbucker for better/more authentic split sounds

Where did you order this guitar body/neck from?

Guitar neck and body aren't screwed together yet, that was just a crude mock up (sorry, should have been more specific.)

Neck is warmoth, body came from Animl (forum member) who was selling a perfectly finished one piece swamp ash body for $80... I had the cash so I bit. I still need to hit it with some nitro clear but other than that it's good to go. Well, except for the 3-4 dents that seem to come from just moving it around. Le sigh. I will fix those too before putting everything together. Finish though I'm 80% sure is the reranch color sherwood green...

Neck is unfinished, I'm just going to do a few thin coats of shellac, sand, few thin coats of tru oil, sand, and then be done with it.

Almost finished! Still waiting for the third DPDT switch. After that I only have to adjust intonation.

Turned out great. Strings are 9-46 XL.

E: So technically, the body shape is taken from Ibanez GSZ and modified a little during the sawing and drawing. Neck is one-piece maple with maple fretboard, originally from Kramer Focus. Pickups are two nameless single coils and Jackson CVR2 at bridge, all mounted straight to wood. Bridge is some hardtail Strat replacement, string-through. Front rout, pups wired in series and every pup has its own ON-OFF switch, single 500k vol pot. Wood is burned and then sanded and cleaned, finished with 3 layers of matte lacquer.

Not perfect in any level, but I´m starting to like it more and more. Need to change the nut sometime but I can live with it.

Re: Who's working on a build right now? Let's see your stuff!

Just took the black and blue caster to my local music shop to have the holes professionally drilled in the neck heel and to get a final setup done after the tech attaches the neck. I know it's not me doing it but he's got years of experience and if it gets screwed up I can call him on it. Turns out I bought the parts, he gets all the fun. Or most of it, I did fill the previous holes in the neck. I'm thinking of buying a single layer gloss black pickguard for it to go with the black hardware etc. I already have black pickup covers and knobs. Or should I just stick with white pickup covers and knobs to go with the maple neck and fretboard? Any opinions?

I wanted a "clean single coil" guitar since most of my guitars have humbuckers so I decided to try Lace sensors since they sound really good clean and they have less hum than traditional single coils. I wasn't able to find a strat style guitar with a maple neck so I bought an Ibanez RX60. It ends up the RX60 had a ply body and was badly painted so I opted to start over with a new body. I was surprised that the Lace's sound good distorted so I decided to expand my options. I'm going to install a on/on/on switch so I can use either of the bridge coils alone or in series with each other. This one will either be a H/S/S or H/S/H guitar if I can find another Lace Sensor for a reasonable price, in which case I would also wire the neck to do either coils or both in series. If I like it enough I might add a Artec QTA 4-way boost.

Parts List:
Dark purple body unknown wood from Guitarfetish on closeout $18.50.
Maple Ibanez RX60 neck
2 500K pots Volume & Tone
Cast chrome strat tremolo
5-way switch
on/on/on mini toggle for the bridge
Lace Red Sensor Back-Bridge
Lace Blue Sensor Front-Bridge
Lace Silver Middle
Lace Gold Neck

A little bit further along. I would still like to turn this guitar into a H/S/H configuration since the flat pickup adapter I have for the neck position doesn't look great. I'm thinking I will also skip the tone control and put a Artec QTA 4 way boost in there instead. The top on this guitar is abnormally thick so I will need to countersink the pots.

I still need to find:
1 x 500K volume pot
1 x on/on/on switch
6 x bridge screws

W00T! The "Black 'n' Blue Caster" is assembled, will post pics once I pick her up from the music store. Should be sometime this week (I hope) good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise...

I also have abandoned the idea of refinishing Phoenix, instead I simply bought a guitar body in the desired color from Guitar Fetish. The yellow sparkle "Dano Flake" finish, it fits the neck I have and will keep me from going insane trying to find time to do all the stuff I've got planned.

It's a Warmoth Telemaster alder body, with the guts of my Squier Vintage Modified Tele installed in it. Broadcaster bridge pickup in a Callaham bridge, with a Vintage for Tele neck pickup. 250K pots, and a .05uF Luxe capacitor. Standard 3 way switching. A black pearl pick guard is on the way.

I have been sheeting out this beast with plywood. So far so good.

Re: Who's working on a build right now? Let's see your stuff!

^ ^ What'cha gonna do in there ??

I have to make it into a 2 bedrooms and a big lounge. That's my current workshop  but my family needs more room. I have another space for my tools lined up i just need to cement a slab and add some walls/doors etc.

Its a shame i wont have the money to do the ceiling at the same time. It already cost me around $1000 just in ply wood. I Need to do something with the slab too, was hoping maybe a stain and sealer but i haven't investigated it yet.

Lucky my brother is an electrician otherwise i wouldn't be able to do it. All the fittings like the fans, lights, switches and fuse boxes adds up to $700 :dunno:

Its a nice shed 7x11mm, its basically like a steel framed house.
