Why am i getting an electric shock from my guitar?

Re: Why am i getting an electric shock from my guitar?

I keep on getting shocked at the bridge and one spot on the sixth string, but my electric guitar isn't plugged in to an amp. Also, I am only getting shocked on one spot of my arm.

Are you wearing polyester/nylon or other man made fibres?
Are you on a thick carpet?
Your guitar is passive and highly unlikely (impossible) to give you an electric shock, it's more likely that you're giving the guitar a shock.
It sounds like your building up a static charge and then giving it an easy route to ground.
If you had a 240v shock you'd know about it and probably literally pee your pants

I'm guessing you're getting a static shock.. That is the only way you could be getting shocked from an unplugged guitar unless your guitar is possessed by Satan..
That is the only other logical explanation..

I'm shocked I missed this post. You'd have thought it would have attracted me like a lightning rod. Highly charged topics like this really need addressed. I bolted right to Youtube and found this clip of Frehley playing a Tampa Bay Lightning game:

It means you've nailed the "Ride The Lightning" tone.

Insulate yourself from electric shock - especially vital organs. Therefore, wear a condom.

Re: Why am i getting an electric shock from my guitar?

Ok, thanks for all the help! I figured it was statically shocking me, but it only happens on one spot of my arm so that part still doesn't make much sense.

Re: Why am i getting an electric shock from my guitar?

You may be right, I stumbled across this video recently, the guy says a static charge can be built up in the scratchplate (makes sense but I've never experienced it)
Starts about 2:30

Do yourself a favor in the future and post a new thread for stuff like this rather than bringing back an ancient one. I'm not suggesting this as if I'm trying to be a moderator. Just that you would probably get more help by starting a new thread as there are members who notice that the thread is real old and are less likely to respond.

Thanks, I am a new member on here. I looked but I couldn't find where I could do create a new thread.

Interesting video Regan. I am using a Yamaha Pacifica, same body style as a strat and, and I believe it has the fender-style bridge.
