Why am I getting hum?????

I wired up my HSS Strat so that position 2 combines the middle single-coil in parallel with the bridge humbucker's north (slug) coil. The humbucker is a 59/Custom hybrid (TB-16). Before wiring this up, I placed the top of the middle single-coil on the top of the humbucker's north coil and both coils were attracted to each other (as opposed to being repelled by each other). Doesn't this mean that these two coils are RWRP relative to each other??? If so, then why am I hearing as much hum as I do when using only the middle single-coil or the humbucker's north coil on its own?

Re: Why am I getting hum?????

being opposite polarity doesnt mean its reverse wound.

you might need to swap the neck and middle pups to get the middle pup rw/rp to a coil of the bucker

What's weird is that it worked fine with a JB I used to have in the bridge slot.

Re: Why am I getting hum?????

that is weird. is this a real hybrid or a homemade one?

you could just flip the magnet in the bucker

Re: Why am I getting hum?????

Real one

Is it possible that the bridge pickup's slug coil and the middle pickup's coil are so mismatched that very little hum is cancelled out? I'm asking because, now that I've listened more, the combined position (position 4) has as much hum as the middle pickup alone, but less than the slug coil alone.

i would think it would be less when combined if the two coils were rw/rp
