Why aren't 4x10 cabinets more popular?

Re: Why aren't 4x10 cabinets more popular?

Probably since 10's has a higher resonating frequency, and therefore are thinner and cleaner sounding than 12's.

And not many people i know wants a cleaner tone from their cabs anyway...

eh.....how does a higher Fo affect how 'clean' a speaker sounds? I thought this had more to do with harmonic distortion and power handling....

I'd say that the 4x10 is out b/c
1. pro musicians who like the 10" sound usually have 8x10 cabs
2. 2 2x10's are easier to move around for gigs
3. lots of people prefer a 2x10 with a 1x15 (i personally do)
4. a 2x10 or 1x15 will easily work in most gig situations (if not you could use the p.a.)

My guess is that they don't really have that of the Rock and Roll look/sound.

I think finding a better sounding 12" speaker is easier...and more popular.

I have 2 4x10s (Marshall 1965A/1965B) & LOVE them!!!

They LOOK like a full sized 4x12, but are actually 24x24x12 androck with the best of them.

I prefer 10" speakers, and was quite dismayed to find that avatar discontinued their line

Well, my fault.

My point is that a bigger speaker membrane will produce more breakup, and therefore won't sound so clean. :)

I like 4x10 cab's for bass, but I don't like the sound of them for guitar.

A bass player in my old band had one of Alex Lifesons ealy 80's Marshall cabs and it had 4 10's i think..... it was a Guitar cab but he used it for bass..... On the back was spray painted RUSH Stage Left...... I wanted that cab but he is such a huge Rush fan there is no way he'll part with it.
