Why aren't Voxes more commonly used in metal?

Re: Why aren't Voxes more commonly used in metal?

It's not always fake. I saw Megadeth in 2005 and they had 8 Marshall full stacks set up on stage. Don't even think they were miced, though I could be wrong. I could feel my innards shaking when they played.

An AC50 or AC100 through a couple of 4x12s would do Sabbath-esque doom/sludge tones really nicely. Then again, the same could be said for just about any moderate gain British amp through a 4x12 or two...or eight.

Not bad, but I assume that was at a huge outdoor venue or a pretty big indoor one.

I saw Sleep at a pretty small venue in SF (1200 people IIRC) and the bassist had 5 Among V4s each going into their own 8x10. They were all mic'd. I think he even had another V4+8x10 on the guitar side of the stage.

The guitarist had 7 4x12s and a 6x12 on his side, plus a 4x12 on the bass side.

That was a loud show.
