Why did Dimebag tape his Neck Pickup?

I've been wondering for a while now. So why did Dimebag tape the sides of his Neck Pickup/Humbucker? For those who haven't seen it:

To keep the high and low E strings from getting caught underneath the edges of the pickup during fast/aggressive playing and returns from dive bombs. :smoker:

Strings can get caught in the frame of the pickup after a really deep divebomb, which Vai and Dime were/are kind of prone to do.

And as mentioned, the magnetic field can get the string stuck to the pickup, which if chosen would do a loud POP and that's not good.

Seriously? I have no idea why. I know some of the Dimebag signatures that Dean put out after his passing had the tape on the neck pickup, though they were stop tail. Im sure this was done solely in the name of cosmetics though.

Seriously? I have no idea why. I know some of the Dimebag signatures that Dean put out after his passing had the tape on the neck pickup, though they were stop tail. Im sure this was done solely in the name of cosmetics though.

Like I said, it's not just using the trem that will cause that. Strumming hard enough at a certain angle will get the high E hung up as well. I've done it once or twice myself.

I got the high E string caught in the neck pup and it broke the winding. Had to buy a new pup.

Like I said, it's not just using the trem that will cause that. Strumming hard enough at a certain angle will get the high E hung up as well. I've done it once or twice myself.

well then that makes sense because angus has a monster of a right hand!

I get the high E caught under the bobbin of my Thinline Tele's uncovered neck pickup when I pick hard. It happens, man.
