Why did no one tell me about George Benson?!

I was going through an old G1 magazine, and I found a transcription of "Breezin". I'd heard his name before, but I'm really glad I sat down and listened to him.

I LOVE this guy's phrasing--he's got just the right mix of jazzy phrasing and blues sensibility. His playing is a little more mainstream sounding than other blues/jazz guys like Wes Montgomery, but I think he deserves just as much credit. The guy's got a voice, too.

Lol...what rock have you been living under??:D
The man is a monster....do not be fooled by the slick sounds and such...he is one serious mofo!
And has been so for a few decades now....
Has a siggie Ibanez jazzer...which by the way is one cool guitar!

My favorite song of his since I was 5yrs old is Give Me The Night.

its peculiar that you are focusing on tunes of his that showcase his monster abilities the least .. the stuff you are referencing is 'pop' benson - and yes, it is very well crafted pop .. but if you REALLY wanna have your head blown off by him, find older stuff of his from the 60s and early 70s .. just startlingly good jazz lines .. amazing chops, feel, tone, etc ..

hi guys. if you want to listen to some straight up jazz guitar, find THE GEORGE BENSON COOKBOOK. his 2nd album. 1965. the 1st song is called THE COOKER.
He also likes a cold budweiser from time to time.
