Why didn't you tell me?

Why didn't you guys tell me that DOD pedals were no good?

Okay, just kidding - you did. But I was suckered in by the low price. And honestly, for a while, I was very happy with them.

I was playing tonight, and my DOD stereo phaser kept turning on randomly. Very annoying. I finally pulled it out of the signal chain during a break. Then my DOD fuzz did the same thing - once - but I'm afraid it may start failing, too.

The only other DOD I have is the milkbox compressor - but I leave that on all the time anyway.

So I guess, I'll pulling these things out - and looking for alternatives. Kind of glad this happened BEFORE Christmas.

The effects I have left - the Bad Monkey, the Tubulator (I know it's cheap, but it is working so far), and the Small Clone.

Any suggestions? What can I not live without? I honestly don't feel like I NEED another fuzz. And the main thing I used the phaser for was to emulate a tremolo. So I probably need to look for a tremolo. I think I should probably get a delay - but I don't feel like I NEED it right now.

Yeah, I know. Maybe, I'll be able to afford ONE of those for Christmas. Probably the tremolo (what I need the most).

Any other brands? I know Boss is the industry standard. But I have to say I am very happy with my Bad Monkey and my Small Clone. I am willing to try something else.

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

i use a DOD Stereo Chorus in my board- it is 2 choruses in 1 box...i love the way it sounds- less hi-fi than the boss chorus.

I probably won't buy another DOD - but I'm glad it works well for you. Besides, I have the Small Clone and I love it.

Regarding delays - I've seen a lot of love here for the Rocktron. The one thing that has kept me away from them is the physical size - but I've been trimming down my pedals so much lately, I actually have a bit of room.

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

i have a few DOD's..... they can be had for cheap in pawn shops... I bought 2 mid 90's delays for $35 each.... plus i also have a few different Flangers/Chorus's.... They work and sound fine.... and for the cash on the used market these pedals can be had for they are a deal... are they the best, no..... but for the bucks they rock..

My only complaint with my DOD stuff is the delays are noisey infront of the preamp, but silent in an amps FX loop.. It makes a blip blip blip blip sound in time with the delay setting. But a full 1 second delay pedal for $35 Canadian is still a good thing!

The Flangers i have offer a much wider sweep range then my Boss...

i never bought any of the DOD od's or distortions..... but the chorus's, Flangers, and even their delays can be great for the cash...

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

I loved my FX69 Grunge pedal until the day it was stolen, and would love to buy another old one (not the second edition) if I could find it.

But that´s mostly nostalgia ;)

hahaha that pedal reminds me of my first year playing guitar. I used either that or the Death Metal and tried to boost as much bass/treble and gain, and scoop as much mids possible.

Back on topic. As other people have said, the 250's pretty good.

I've used an FX65 for YEARS for acoustic work. Never had a problem with it. I like it better than the Boss...so sue me.:D

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

I've never liked 'em, sorry. DoD to me is "dead on delivery" or "good for nothing but distortion". Still :dunno: i wish you luck finding something better. I prefer Boss all the way, but I don't know if they have a fuzz box, so maybe you'll need a Fuzz Face.

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

If it is modulation you are looking for, the Boss BF-3 Flanger is the ultimate. It gives you flange, tremolo, chorus, and ring modulator, and it sounds fine when a phaser might be needed also.

Re: Why didn't you tell me?

Are the hex screws a bit tight perhaps on the pedal switch. Moist playing area? Humid. I had a tv years ago that had little "touchless" knobs that hated damp air. DOD pedals have a similar "light touch system" Just a thought...
