Why do leads come out "wrong" side of Duncan Bass Pickups?

I have replaced 3 sets of Jazz bass and PJ bass pickups lately with full sets from Seymour Duncan. On each Jazz bass pickup, the wiring lead comes out the "wrong" side of the pickup requiring you to bend the wires back under the pickup to get to the controls cavity to be soldered.
Is this normal?
Have I bought pickups meant for a left handed bass?
Has someone put the logo-embossed covers on all of them backwards at the Duncan factory?
It just seems so illogical to have the wires exit the pickups as far away from where you need them to go as possible.

Other pickups do that, too. I don't think it is a big deal if you have enough wire (like a new pickup). The excess can easily go under the pickup to the wire channel.

Maybe you bought the Duncan Mirror-Mirror set?
