Why do my high notes sound like this?

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

whats your rig? how close are the pups to the strings?

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

I have a Mexican fat strat with a TB-4 in the bridge along with the stock fender pickups. Im running that into a Line 6 Uber Metal and Boss EQ700 into a Behringer V-ampire. My friend has a standard strat with a hot rail in the bridge and he doesnt have this problem at all. The pickups are all set up to Fender's specifications. (4/64" on the bass side and 3/64" for the treble side)

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

I had that same problem too. It maybe your saddles, frets, or string. I would try first replacing the string. I guess you could clean the frets that occurs on with steel wool, basically that gets rid of little burrs or anything that may make the string ring correctly. Then try sand the saddles where the string contacts gets rid of possible burrs there too if those don't work. If those don't work it could be something like a loose component or you could try messing with action on your guitar.

BOO i have this problem too!!
and the thing is.. i have a decent setup!
i dunno what it is.. but it sounds even worse than his!
it only sounds like that when plugged in... hmmm i wonder..
its not the string, ive replaced it many times..

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

only on one pup or on all of them?
with and without the uber metal pedal on?
if your friend plugs into your rig without changing any settings, his doesnt do it?

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

When I had this problem it happened on all my pickups and both my amps. The problem didn't happen on my Les Paul. The problem should be in the saddle or frets.

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

Greendy is probably right, this used to happen on my Evo, but I fixed it somehow. Also changing to a higher string guage and not letting strings rust helps.

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

wierd.. i had a dream about that last night now that you mention it.. i think its cause someone before mentioned messing around with the action on my guitar so i dreamt it.. wierd

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

That sounds like the "double tones" I used to get with my old strat when the pickups, particularly the single coils were set too close to the strings. Have you tried lowering the pickups? ( I know you followed the Fender specs). Might be worth a try. Sounds exactly like the problem I used to have. I lowered the pups, and fixed the prob.

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

Did you lower all the pickups? it is the magnetic pull that causes that oscillation, I believe. Could be something else, but those singles can exert a lot of pull, and it solved my problem. Maybe trying without effects, a different amp.

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

haha..

i hate high action though!
i'll wait and see what my guitar teacher has to say

Re: Why do my high notes sound like this?

My friend plugged his guitar into my rig today and he had the exact same effect but it was not very noticeable (He has a hot rail in the bridge, cool rail in the middle, and a little 59 in the neck). I switched to the 4th position on my guitar and started picking between the neck and middle pickups and the noise was reduced dramatically. I also just noticed a little bit of fret buzz on the G and B strings (where the effect is the worst). So I'll raise the action as well and see what happens.

If that doesn't help you should start with just the guitar and amp first, then add stuff back to your signal chain until you find the culprit. If it still makes that sound with just the guitar and amp, go to GC or to a buddy's house and try the guitar on another amp to make sure it's not a problem with the guitar. After that you'll have a better idea of where your problem actually is and from your post it sounds like it's in the rest of your setup, not the guitar.
