Why do people on other forums dislike the HRDx

Re: Why do people on other forums dislike the HRDx

So marginal build quality is the main beef? Hell, I like amps because they have marginal build quality!

I agree the OD channel kinda sucks (notice kinda), but I think the cleans make up for it. Especially for an amp that can be had for >$400

I really dislike the OD (although useful as a slight boost), but the clean does make up for it. A good OD pedal through the clean channel will give you good OD. Decent amps.

Re: Why do people on other forums dislike the HRDx

the cleans are nice, it makes a good platform for pedals, and it doesn't cost a lot

Boom.

Also of note, for those that don't dig the Hot Rod Deluxe, play a Hot Rod DeVille, either in 4x10 or 2x12 configuration. They are 60 watt amps, as opposed to 40 watts, and they sound right-much-different.

I just bought a used DeVille 212, after playing a DeVille 410 at a store and thinking "wow, this really has a lot more depth and fullness than the Deluxe."

I got my MIA DeVille 212 for $385 trade value (traded a Blackheart Little Giant mini stack and an attenuator, good riddance).

however the hands down no doubt whatsoever amp to get is the Hot Rod 4x10 deville of you are going top go that route. It may have a less powerfull amp, but those 4x10's sound glorious.

Wrong about the power, right about the 4x10 sound.

You sod. That was a bargain.

FWIIW, you can make these Fender Hot Rod amps take on more of a Marshall-y sound quality by running the External Loudspeaker output into a suitable cabinet. I tried a 1912. The combination of a closed back and a G12 Gold driver made a world of difference. (The 1912 is a little boxy, though.) To my ears, running the Eminence 4x10 and the Celestion 1x12 at the same time did not sound quite right.

Re: Why do people on other forums dislike the HRDx

The best sound out of those amps is through Celestions G12-65.

Even the OD channel sounds good through those speakers.

I have to thank Robben Ford for the tip.

Re: Why do people on other forums dislike the HRDx

The closest thing I ever tried to this fantasy "ideal" guitar amplifier was the MESA Boogie Mark 3 Simul-Class with a mix of EL34s and 6L6s in the power stage. The guy who owns this li'l beaut will not sell.

now that's some serious tone snobbery
