Why do so many people have huge amps?

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

But what do you do with the Traynor that justifies your owning it?

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

Home use and recording...Someones offended

Not offended, just reminding everyone that what amps people use is not really for others to approve or reject.

I assume you use a 4x12 half stack ? :lmao:

Among other things. It was my first decent amp and for the longest time the only one I had. Everything I used an amp for, I used that amp. I imagine a lot of those guys playing them in small venues are in the same situation. Calling them "stupid" is pretty unnecessary, I think.

Yeah maybe that is harsh of me. Whatever works for an individual is fine I guess I just would never do it cause it is overkill IMO.

To each their own though

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

I see no point in huge amps and stacks... it's all an image with people

"oh well Peter Green used a stack and Jimmy Page so I must have one too"

the whole thing is stupid and bunk I have played combos that have had more low end and overall volume then half stacks before and everytime I see a band playing in a bar with Mesa Boogie Dual Rec stacks or JCM 2000 stacks I just think "stupid".

But this is just me and my opinion so do whatever makes you happy , this is just how I feel about this matter.

Not what makes me happy but what works for the GIG! I often play in churches where I am not miced and the levels are flat brutal. I will run my old Fender 2/12 and my Peavy 120 watt Ultra + head there because as good as my smaller amps are they just don't punch hard enough to cut through. I do also wear PLUGS in those situations. The old 1980's staggered speaker Fender 2/12 I have was thicker on the bottom than any of the 4/12's I had and sounds HUGE!
I prefer to just take my 25 watt Zinky 1/12 combo to gigs but some times in my environments it just is not enough!
What's stupid is spouting BS on how stupid it is for folks to use a big rig. I own one and use it specifically for outdoor shows where we have little in the way of monitors and where I need to fill a room unmiced in a loud environment and a smaller rig just won't do the JOB!

^ Be my guest. I'm done with this ****. I'm going to go play my Peavey Rage 158.

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

You guys realize that amps come with volume knobs, right?

I suppose we should get rid of any car can do more than the posted speed limit. Because we all know that having a gutless sewing machine motor will do nothing to impede the 0-55mph performance...

I don't use little amps because they don't sound or perform like big amps, and anyone who has a problem with that can suck my d*ck.

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

Depends on the gig for me. If we aren't mic'ing the back line (usually when we use our own PA as it's not powerful enough) and it's a big room I use my 50 watter, if it's a bigger show with a full on house PA I'll use the 20 watter. However my 50 watter is a master volume rock amp and it can sound very good at low volumes..... just more so at higher volumes.

Re: Why do so many people have huge amps?

Because most little amps suck for metal. Most of the big amps are all preamp distortion so they sound good at any volume..

Depends on what you consider metal. And the second part of your statement is not entirely true.
