Why do YOU like a tele?

Re: Why do YOU like a tele?

i find that i like how tough it is to play my telecaster, because i feel like the effort im putting it is making the guitar come alive. When i bash a chord, i can hear and feel the bridge and the wood vibrating.....and all the resonance translates into awesome electric tones...i can get any sound i want, from thick and evil like early Jimmy Page, to bright and twangy like early country, and good chimey R&B/funk tones in the middle position, and i even happen to like the neck sound for a good bluesy tone. Any sound i want is there, and its all there in a quite simple design. Its a guitar where the player can make it sound how he wants.

I have to say, as much as I think the MIMs are a great guitar, esp. for the money, there really is a big difference in feel & play between the MIMs & MIAs.

I think you'll see it immediately when you get yours.

The MIA Thinline is an absolute joy to play...even with the stock pickups. The Fralins will hopefully make it THAT MUCH BETTER!

I was actually hoping the MIA would already be routed for a humbucker & I could put the Seth in there, but I'd rather route a MIM than the MIA, ya' know???

Anyway, I think you'll enjoy that Tele:bigthumb:
I've noticed the difference myself recently when I was playing a bunch at a shop here. The biggest difference I noticed was the neck profile. Fret size now is the same, the upgraded pickups in the MIM put them almost in MIA territory but not quite, good bite but not enough spank but better than before.

There's no way I'd route an MIA like that. Luckily my Strat has the pool route so I can put whatever combo I want in it. I love that.

With Tele's I like the traditional look with the neck single. Not too big in to neck humbuckers in them, although I do like how they look with a minibucker. Pickups down the road, maybe for Christmas from the wife, would be a Fralin Blues Special and Duncan Hot Rhythm. Those were what I had going in the project that is now dead due to the acquisition.

I have no doubt I'll enjoy it. I was playing a MIM last week and was loving it.

Re: Why do YOU like a tele?

I like Teles because they're very simple guitar and I think pound for pound Leo got more guitar out of less materials here than he did on any other model.

Strats sting and scream, Teles tend to punch and sing and twang. They've got sounds in both the neck and bridge pickups you just can't get out of any other type of guitar.

I'd like to get one in the future.

Here's a quick pic to insite the GAS a little more...one's missing too

Jerk. ;)

Them's purdy. Flamecaster looks like it's coming along nicely.

Normally, I'm with ya' there, but I wanted something different than the others I have & I thought the Seth in the semi-hollow would kill !

If it sucks, I'll switch it back.....

You'll like the Fralin Blues Special....very nice p/u :bigthumb:

Re: Why do YOU like a tele?

Like a lot of other said, it's just a great, no B.S. guitar. Everything you need and nothing you don't. And pretty much indestructible, to boot.

I've never gotten along with Strats, they sound shrill when I play them.

Finally, they're not some precious piece of art. You play a Tele, not look at it. If it's not right, no qualms about modding it, just unscrew some parts and screw some others on there. Need a humbucker? Little routing, change the bridge, viola! Done.

Try sticking a Tele bridge pickup in a Les Paul some time. Not.

Here's my take:
I've been on a couple of forums, and it seems like a lot of people have some serious tele GAS. I wonder why? Teles are kind of cool, funky & fun to play; I just don't like them enough to go buy one or want to build one.
I like strats, I like LPs, I like some shred guitars, but I just don't bond with teles.
Anyone else not get the Tele fascination? And you dudes that do, tell me about it. I want to hear both sides of the story.

I'm a strat fan first but also love my teles.... it is a simple blunt tool! It has better tone then my strats, mostly i figure thats because of the string thru bridge... my tele seems to have more low end then strats..... With the tone controlls i can get many sounds out of my teles...

i love the chunky body feel..... so much so on my homemade strat i didn't do the tummy and forarm cuts... I love the thick slab feel.... And i'll be making more bodies like this soon... strat look but Tele feel!

I have no idea why but my MIM Tele is pretty darn quiet for single coils.... My MIM Strats are much noisier

I like Teles because they keep you honest. You earn every note that you get out of them....

That's easy, their tone is _classic_ =)

(well, almost) :)

Amen Brother.... I have 4 or 5 Teles now. All a little different, although I do feel a lot more comfortable with a Strat..... When the music requires it nothing but a Tele will do.

Re: Why do YOU like a tele?

I like Teles . Its a simple yet an excellent Solid body electric. Just string it, tune it and play. Leo defintly built a beautifull guitar. I love the tele because it is Simple does all the work a solid body electric is req to do. Pop in a Humbuker in the neck and it sounds Better ( at least to my ears). Pop in Humbuker in the bridge and you have a nice Tele-GIb, yet it reamins the tele shape. simple. Its a SIMPLE GUITAR THAT DOES ITS JOB.

Re: Why do YOU like a tele?

Tele's simple and basic and won't go out of tune after you smack a drunk audience member with it, or throw it into your amp.
