Why do you use multiple overdrive pedals?

Re: Why do you use multiple overdrive pedals?

depends on which SRV tone era you speak of. I dont like his late 80's stuff when he was driving a JCM 800 with TS808's-buzz mania. Earlier stuff with his hot rodded super and vibroverbs-awesome smooth cleans and sustaining, pleasant leads. One of the bench marks of THE fender strat tone.

Whenever i use my TS-9 it's with pretty darn low drive-i just step on it for some compression and the mid hump. It would be nice to run two though, if it sustains and sings as everyone says it does.

SRV's tone wasn't all that great...
HA! And a Yngwie fan is saying this. No offense to Yngwie, cause he's an awesome player, but single coils are meant for blues and to be played clean. NOT for shred. I think his tone is absolutely abysmal. And yeah, the SRV tone I speak of is the Texas Flood/Couldn't Stand the Wheather tone.

the thing is though, there wasnt really a 'shred tone' before yngwie, he pretty much started 80s shred. so id prefer to look at it in the way that when other guitarists tried to do something similar to yngwie by playing fast, they just improved on his tone to find better ways of suiting it to the genre.

Re: Why do you use multiple overdrive pedals?

i dont mind yngwie's tone, but it is a bit over the top with the massive amount of stacks, etc. I think for the blues genre, SRV's tone was a simple formula-strat, OD's and wah, BF amps. And it is very pleasing to hear the gentle wail of a strat through vibroverbs for blues.

So you'd get a 'smooth OD' type tone if you half your gain on your OD pedal but use two.

Like right now i use a TS9 with drive at 4, with two TS9's i'd probably be safe leaving them both at around 9 o'clock. I'll check it out.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the great info.

Can anyone describe the tonal difference between the TS7, TS9, and TS808?
