why does alnico 5 dip the midrange?

I am really getting confused by the magnet types? it seems that if you put a 5 in place of a II or ceramic it pulls the midrange back quite a bit? like the customs whivch are all supposedly the SAME pup with different magnets?
like the CC has 4/7/7 bass mid treble
and the custom 7/6/9
and the C 5 6/3/8

:wrf: :wrf:

those mids on the C5 are HALF of the other two? i could believe the mids would go to 4-5
but 3?

I don't think it does dip the mids. I think it brings out more lows and highs and that makes it seem that the mids haved dipped. To me, alnico 5 has plenty of mids...and deeper, bigger bass and highs than a2. Lew

lew in all fairness to the C 5 then would you say the overall midrange is more like 4 not 3? when comparing to the other two customs?

To me it sounds like 4, but the deep tight percussive lows and airy highs are what defines the C-5. If you want a magnet dictating your mids, get a CC. If you value
the midrange character of your guitar's wood and amp, get the C-5.
