I dont hate the JB at all and i want to ask this?
how can you hate any PUP that has made as much a IMPACT on the guitar world as EVH did?
i swear the JB is almost a household name!
my grandmother knows what a duncan JB is and my girlfriend and all my non guitar playing buds i hang with know what the JB is!
now that is a popular pup!
it without a DOUBT is the cliched' guitar pup just as that ole famous chuck berry riff or the EVH tapping thing is.
it put seymour on the map and has been on MORE RECORDINGS and played out live than any other pup ever INCLUDING the old P.A.F's:burnout:

what about megadeth,anthrax,and all so many numerous other "no way in hell boy bands" that used the JB?:laugh2:
i still think it is a trip that metal guys either use a JB or the 81? what i strange
this or that choice?
think about it the majority have either one of those in thier guitars?
not many customs,or distortions,or invader users at all it seems?

You (les) had more or less stated that the JB has to be a great pickup cos "everyone" has used it...it's very popular...almost a household name, etc

I was just pointing out that things like Boy Bands are very popular and many are household names too


Popular doesn't necc = good


That said, I don't hate the JB...I like it in alder bodied bolt ons...but thats about it. It's appeal for the masses is it's ability to cut through...and it records well...I found an old casette tape of mine recently from the early 90s of my Fender Deluxe Strat plus...I had put a JB in that sounded great on tape..crunchy, screams on leads...It also had a clip of one of my gibsons (I think it was my Red custom shop Paula, cant remember...I just said "les paul" on the tape) with a JB too...and it was a screechy nasty mess (I mean the tone, though the playing was equally bad )

JeffB I get your point.I agree with you that just because something is popular does not mean it is good...Or Good for you. Infact to tell you all the truth I hate doing, what every one else does. I would not pick up something and use it just because it is popular, and evry one else is using it. The only reason I use my JB is because I love it. Les Pauls are very popular, but I personaly dont like them that much, dont get me wrong I dont hate them, but I find them bulky.So u see if I dont like something, or it does not meet my expectations there is no way I am going to use it, or keep it.
When I was out to by an amp, I checked out The Marshalls they sounded good, but not the tone I wanted, another brand called "STRANGER" which is localy made sounded much better to the tone I wanted. So I picked the " STRANGER". The reason I like start styled guitars it because they r the most comfy to me.

whos francis??? sides just cos your older dont mean your smarter. Its seriously makin me very displeased that no one will take anything i say seriously if it contradicts their own personal opinion. I got on this forum to talk about maddening tone, ungodly guitars, and insane rock n roll. I got a bunch a guys tellin me that I dunno what im talking about cos they're a few years closer to death :man they need an evil grin smiley:. But in the spirit of world changing music, lets just argue about pickups dude.

Let's see, you type with incorrect punctuation, some of it missing totally, misspellings all over the place, your location description comes across as you having a bad attitude, you've already given some people a taste of a bad attitude, you argue when given an answer to a question you asked about when you know barely anything about the subject in the first place (see new amp thread).

Shall I continue? Basically it comes down to this... you type like an 8 year old speaks, your attitude sucks, and you think just because you're 15 you know it all. Well, guess what, you don't. It's a fact of life, deal with it. Don't let yourself have a problem with being your age, embrace it and enjoy your young years because once you're out of school and enter the working life, everything changes, and those years are gone forever.

Remember, we're dealing with reading text on this forum, or any other forum. The one element missing in this type of communication is body language. A slight change in attitude on your part will most likely yield nicer responses from others.

No one is taking you seriously period. You can get "displeased" all you want but a large majority of the people you are arguing with were playing years before you were even born. The unmitigated arrogance to think you came from the womb with the sum of all guitar knowledge is laughable. You would be well advised to stop talking and start listening. You will achieve your goals of world domination a lot faster.

Francis was this army recruit with a bad attitude in the movie "Stripes". BTW, Ilike the JB that came in my Hamer. It also has a '59 in the neck, which sounds very nice.

I like the JB, enough power to really rock out without becoming a super mega distortion wont go clean pickup. Enough bass for me too.

I've noticed a few negative comments about 59 necks too. I guess I don't hear the bassiness everyone describes,

Thats funny, I changed to a 59 cos I thought the Jazz I had in my neck was too bassy, I felt that the 59 was quite bright in comparison...

I haven't played with one in years, but I remember thinking the mids were too weird sounding. Too "sweet" with not enough meat.
