why does Tom Anderson?

Why does Tom Anderson use 2 strap buttons on the end of the guitar? They both look out of place.. 1 seems too high and the other seems too low

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

So when you have it standing against the wall it has better balance.

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

Tom says he is not a guitar stand guy so when he leans his guitar against his amp, it's less likely to fall over.

Yep, he´s been quoted a few times as being a "no stand" guy, and w/2 buttons that´s les of an issue, because then they´re less likely to tip over ;)

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

no sh!t.... i would have never guessed that was the reason. thanks guys

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

Interenstingly enough, that was my instinctive first thought when I noticed it "Cool, don´t need a stand anymore"..That´s like 10 years ago or so ;)

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

it is so he can be like les claypool and have it at his neck or at his knees like tom delonge he told me so..........pay no attention to me, just nod and smile

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

Tom Anderson guitars are painfully boring looking and lack visual mojo of any kind. On the other hand they are top notch finely built instruments, incredibly high quality.

Uh, I'm not in agreeance with the 'boring' comment... Tom does some incredible finish work...

That's for sure, the finishes and woods he uses are stellar. But my comment is based on the shape, structure, etc. Just the aethstetics. It's hard to explain. I've held and played one before too and it was pretty uninspiring even though it sounded good and was very solid.

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

one thing i can say for anderson is i dig their pickups. my H3 kicks ass. never played any anderson guitars though (i tend to stray from strat shapes in general)

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

My USA Schecter Tele is a derivitive of a Tom Anderson, since Tom used to work for Schecter. It's got 2 strap buttons on the end, too. Kind of a pain when I went to buy straplocks, since I had to have 3 buttons!

Here's the other useful feature of having two strap buttons. You can have two different heights for your guitar. If you use the top one normally, then want to choke up on the strap a bit, you just switch to the lower one. This is good for studio work when you're constantly sitting and standing. On the lower one, your strap won't keep sliding off your shoulder if you sit down.

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

I did the Anderson strap thing on my old bbq strat and it works very well. A very practical small detail.

For some reason, Tom Anderson guitars appeal to me more aesthetically than any of the high end stratoid makers. Not sure why that is, really.

Re: why does Tom Anderson?

Anderson's two strap idea while different is not new. I used to own a Dan Armstrong See-Thru guitar that I bought used in 1971. That guitar had two strap buttons for the same reason. Dan was ahead of his time in many respects. rob
