Why doesn't SD make Dually equivalent?

SD should have a equivalent series of pickups to the Lace Duallys. I tried those P-Rails, but was not crazy about them.

I have Lace Duallys in 2 of my guitars and love 'em. I can get all kinds of tones.

I have HSH (neck middle bridge respectively)
Blue/Gold - Gold - Silver/Red
... and I have individual on/on/on switches on the Duallys to select the individual pickup or both, along with a 5 way Strat selector switch.

Yeah... it's over kill.... and yeah... great guitarist with 1 pickup can do a whole lot more than me... but yeah... I just LIKE IT.

the stagmag and duallys arent really the same thing. some similarities but plenty of differences.

I imagine that you are thinking of something along the lines of a Hot Rails and a Li'l '59 mounted onto a humbucker-style elevator baseplate.

Failing that, a Hot Rails and a Li'l '59 mounted through a humbucker surround with four elevation setting screws.

the stagmag is two traditional strat pups put together, as single coils they sound like strat pups, as a bucker they dont sound like a paf or any other typical bucker. it sounds like two strat pups in series.

the lace duallys are two single coil pups but they arent really voiced like traditional strat pups. listen to a gold lace sensor next to an ssl1 and they arent very similar.

Also the "Red" for example is voiced like a high output bucker, the "blue" a "PAF" voicing (kinda), "Gold" is well what the lace gold sounds like lol, and the "silver" like a 70's kinda strat, its a cool idea none the less but... Lace is Lace... They dont really stick to the norm... look at the alumitones

Buy more Lace pickups, if that's what you like.

Yes, that is the kind of thing I'm talking about... combining 2 strat size pickups mounted together in a humbucker size. But some tonally different combinations.

And that's probably the right answer. You can't make everything. And if you offer the public to many choices they'll just go home and stew over what to buy (like they already do!) and wind up buying nothing.

This is my problem, to many choices. I've spent months debating on which one's to try.

at some point you need to jump and get something. even if it isnt what you want you at least have a point of reference to work from. if you buy pups used and get a decent deal, you shouldnt lose money flipping one used pup for another

Sounds to me like the SD StagMag could be a GREAT pu for this, the Epi ES-333 :cool2:

I think the flaw with the Stag Mag is that if you put it in a standard bridge humbucker rout, it won't be slanted like a Strat bridge p/u. So if you split it to the coil nearest the bridge, the low strings can be a bit too bright, but if you split to the coil further from the bridge it's a bit more mellow than a Strat.

Also, with the vintage stagger, the G string can be a bit too loud and piercing; I wish they would make a 'flat mag' variant

Still, it's my favourite bridge humbucker from the few I've tried, and the only one where I actually prefer the humbucking sound to the split sound. Maybe bridge humbuckers just don't agree with me and I should stick with a Strat or Tele.:scratchch
