Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

For over 3 decades I've been using the 59's in almost every type of guitar and they have always been winners , just the right amount of vintage output and I think they would sound even better if they were aged like the A2 Ants they offer .
Who would be the right contact person at SD to suggest this to that would take it seriously , anyone know ?

the machine always makes sure to spin extra nice for the j

duncan will make a 59 with aged a5 if you ask em (and pay for em) have you tried a rc or uo a5 mag in your 59s to see if you like it?

Totally agree with Jeremy. The roughcast will add some subtle characteristics, but for a more aged sound and response, you'll want un-oriented A5. $5 and 10 minutes to do the swap. Here's where most of us buy ours: LINK

If you mean to make it a production item, forget it. The Co. doesn't listen to anybody without really very deep pockets or stardom status.

However, you can order whatever you want in the Custom Shop, just like everybody else.

Discharged is right, unfortunately. There is a webpage where you can submit ideas, but it's a bit of a black hole and the competition is fierce

I have tried the RC A5 but not the UO A5 mags .
The RC A5 wasn't that big of a difference to me , the A4 sound more balanced but still not a vintage vibe .
So to get more of the vintage vibe , would a degaussed A5 mag like they use in the Ant JB or would a UO A5 do it better ?

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

The Custom Shop could build one if you wanted it. Otherwise I'd suggest an regular Antiquity, which I think would sound better, anyway. So, if you want an aged 59, contact the Custom Shop.

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

Despite popular belief, magnets do not degauss to any significant degree (at least in terms of guitar pickups). I never thought the '59 was much a vintage vibe compared to say the Antiquities.

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

I think some people might just want the aging on the pickup. You can get that through the Custom Shop.

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

Ok , just got off the phone with a SD rep and they said to a custom shop build would be $150 .
He said degaussing an A5 will soften it up but possible a degaussed A4 might be better for a more balanced vintage vibe .
I'll have to think about this one ....

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

Was the AIV you tried roughcast?
IMO a RC AIV in a ‘59 neck is an awesome
combination. I know many here will agree.
I haven’t tried in the bridge though.

That's a pretty significant upcharge for a weaker magnet. I think any of the other methods mentioned above, particularly swapping the mag yourself, are better ideas.

This. Although depending on the guitar I would go A4 neck, RCUOA5 bridge.

But I think the aging is also what you are paying for, and people like MJ winding it.

I'm glad someone is mentioning this. Alnico magnets take eons to degauss to any notable degree on their own. External factors can cause premature degaussing, of course, but a 40 year-old pickup's magnet today, if unadulterated, will have 99.999% of the charge it left the factory with.

That said, gauss does affect the character of the magnet and controlling that aspect is yet another tool in the pickup-maker's toolbox.

Re: Why does'nt SD offer a Antiquity 59 set

Just get unplated nickel covers, an A4 magnet (if you can find a degaussed A4, good for you!) and for less than 50 bucks you can augment two '59's. Bit of wax, bit of solder and elbow grease and you're done.

Tried the A4 , it balanced the pickup EQ wise but it didn't give it any special vibe other than that .
I think some of the mojo is in degaussing and magnet choice .
Wonder what an A3 would sound like in the neck .
