Just a thought here guys, totally respect, and will ask for dispensation
when I require it. But what's the go?

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

jeez, i think the exchange rate in the us sucks for you guys down under? but i have no problem shipping overseas...

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I think the main problem is accountability Will. There is none. Its based on trust, and we all know waht can happen in that scenario. One lost package or wahtnot and the fur flys, with someone blameing someone else for being swindled.Haveing said that, Ive taken a few chances , some werent the best descisions , but overall im satisfied , and take each request on a case by case basis. If i happen to think your a standup bro., I probably will do it.
One thing I was surprised about is how painless it actually really is to send a small parcel overseas though.lIke on the classic stack I sent you, Will,I kinda charged you more than I normally would for that pup, expecting for their to be some exhorbitant fee to send it to yer, but actully it was nearly about the same as sending here within the continental U.S. , and it was very painless. Therer were no forms to fill out ( im pretty sure thats cause the parcel was under 1 LB.), and it was no more involved than sending it 50 miles away, instead of 5000, or howvevr far it is to Australia.
Like I said, the main problem as i see it is theres no package tracking , yeah, and also people dont know what to expect so they shy away from it. Cheers.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

i always offer international shipping ....it not like it hard or anything...i can ship a guitar to Austrailia for $150 no problem!

i have shipped guitars all over the world and never had a broken guitar.

you should buy one of my Heritages Will...LOL

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

well, i think alot of the problems stem from the fact when you tell the buyer the shipping charges, they balk at paying the charges...yea like i set the shipping rates...:28: i did ship a zbest cab to a guy in england, he had no problems paying the shipping charges.:cool2:

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I would normally. But Im having issues with my bank, and cant transfer funds from PayPal to my bank. Thus, I cannot touch the money I make in sales. That means all shipping costs come out of pocket.

Otherwise, I try to help out.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Scams, buyers not paying import fees that get charged back to me. scams. No legal recourse, shipping hassles ....... I'm not a business. I just want to sell the occasional item. I'm not obligated to do so and don't.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Probably because "CONUS only" sounds more assertive and less snarky than "will consider Int'l shipping if I know your name and like you."

I'm always open to PM offers of any kind -- but don't want to leave the door completely open.

That said, I've never had an international deal go even slightly bad. Always nice people. But that's because I screen my calls.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I ship plenty overseas, and if you use USPS online, the customs forms print automatically.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell for me. I don't mind shipping overseas if I know the person.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I'm too lazy to fill out all the stupid customs forms.

Plain as that.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I always say US48 only..........but have and will make exceptions.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I always have to go, wait in line, just to get an exact quote on the price, then if the person WANTS to buy the item, I have to go back again, and fill out the forms. Just a pain in the ass, and my time is money and that's just not worth it. UPS is way too expensive and USPS is always busy with 2 people working the counter and the only time I can go is lunch time.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I suppose the simplest reason is that with about 300,000,000 people in the CONUS, it's not worth the hassle otherwise. If you can't sell it here, just drop the price until it sells.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Higher expenditure for both parties, customs hassles, etc. Plus I've had people request that I claim the value to be much lower than it really was to lower their fees on the receiving end, which I refuse to do. I've personally had some bad experience shipping internationally, so I don't do it anymore.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I only sell internationally on smaller items like pedals and pickups. I'm tired of dealing with the hassle of sending out larger items internationally. Extra time, special packaging, customs forms, tracking, long ship times, emails, etc... not worth it to me.

I drool over all of your Heritages!!! Man, I've even put together a
Heritage clone, all the Schaller hardware and pickups, will post pics
over the next few days!

I've been buying from all corners of the world for over 20 years and
am aware of all the pitfalls for both sellers and buyers particularly
with non insured / trackable shipments. As a buyer I know the risks
and make that known to the seller and accept those risks, I also
like to screen the seller, how many posts/feedback etc...

Thanks for all your responses, I wasn't whinging, just wanted to know.

Thanks, Will.

Well, when the dollar was very favorable for pretty much the whole world, you could have a much greater demand for the price you wanted. Not saying it would promise smooth transactions all the time, but if you look into your possible international buyers' feedback or posts, that's a good litmus test..

I don't mind the customs hassle, although I profoundly dislike the authorities for keeping ridiculous limits on imports. Nevertheless, up until the last few months, I was better off looking at importing gear from the US, than buying domestically. You don't want to know how much I have saved on that. :)

I also

Me too. Won't buy without looking at the way the seller writes and conveys himself on the Internet.

I would definitely ship Intl. to a forum bro if they had a decent post count and reputation on the board. I will not ship Intl. if it's Ebay, though.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I don't want to deal with the hassle for just anybody. I have, upon request, entertained shipping outside of the CONUS. There's always a stipulation that shipping will increase the advertised price... most of the time I include the shipping costs with my for sale price for simplicity.
