Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

On Ebay the major problem is that almost all the international buyers turned out to be offensive morons. That's why I stopped. I would do business with the same people if they were in the U.S. either. But I shipped pickups to Australia just recently, so it just takes convincing.

Brian, I got you beat. At least most people know Hawaii is a state of the USA. I've had someone not want to ship to New Mexico because they "Don't ship to foreign countries" (thought it was Mexico).

Hahahahahahahaha. Priceless! Sorry for your inconvenience, but that was flat out too funny. :laugh2:

I haven't run into that one yet, surprisingly.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

The only reason I generally don't ship internationally is because my local post office is a nightmare. Truly hell on earth. I can't spent an hour in line to ship a $50 pickup or $100 pedal.

I can ship easily ship international through UPS with my account, but it's usually much more expensive that USPS.

Sometimes I make exceptions (just shipped a pedal to a nice guy in Australia,) but usually not. Wish I could do it more often, but can't spare the time. Or deal with the hassle. I got in a shouting argument with a nasty woman when I was there for the pedal going to Oz.

Cheers

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

When I say CONUS only, it's because I usually include shipping in my price and I'm making it clear that the shipping is only included for buyers in the US lower 48. I usually don't have a problem shipping internationally. I should probably make that clearer in my spam threads.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I'll ship to almost anyone who can type a legible sentence in English. I also make it VERY clear that I will NOT lie about the value of a package and if there is an insurance cap, which I have run into with postal routes, I'll offer rate "A" with maximum coverage etc and a fully insured FedEx/UPS/Whatever Rate "B" and let the buyer decide.

If he's willing to risk a $1500 guitar with only $600 insurance, for example, that's his business.

Everything in writing and things go smooth.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

ok.....i'll be serious ....this time......

why?

higher shipping fees that the customer *****es about, language barrier, most of the international responses are obvious scammers, damage claim headaches, taxes, "doody" fees, 3rd world postal systems that can't find the shipping addy, the extra time spent emailing & trying to make "joe mqbblrtzaaaa" understand the meaning of the words "sold as is- no warrantee" ..........all that eats into the profit........

yeah....."mo' munny on la mesa por vou".........take it........i've had enough o' dat crrrrr-AP! :friday:

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Maybe I should have mentioned in the thread

"to Forum members outside of the CONUS?"

Will.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

It's always a bugger to see "CONUS only" here, on ebay, and around the traps, but usually an email or PM can sort that out.

AU$10 dollars will get a pickup, CD or similar to/from the US/Australia in 7 days via regular mail in my experience - not really that much.

It's a shame that you can't tell the differnece between Canada, England or Germany (As examples) from so called "Third World" countries.

And It's good that I learned now, that since I'm not from the USA, I'm OBVIOUSLY a scammer looking only to rip you off...

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

Has anyone ever sent anything to South Africa? I had a web buddie acouple pf years ago who I sent some stuff to .Thats a whole nother universe!! Like 16 weeks to send something "ground", which of course means cargo ship. And the tariffs are crazy, the postal rates are extravagant, and the So. African postal service..well, ours is like a lot more reputable. My internet buddy dissapeared off the radar. Is he dead? who knows..

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

1. I hate filling out customs paperwork.

2. and most importantly, every time I get an on-line quote using exact box dimensions, weight, value, to and from zips, etc. it's always expensive and every single fking time the buyer btches at me about how he's bought other guitars and they never cost that much to ship. I said f_k it, I just won't bother anymore then, don't need the headache.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

When i price my things it's usually priced for CONUS, if the buyer is willing to pay more for shipping I don't mind the extra work to push my old gear. Though I only sold small things pickups, pedals, assorted hardware, etc. overseas, I haven't had too much of a problem doing so.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

I just tend to sell small things like a pickup here, or a few pedals there. I'm not really familiar with international shipping, so I just put the "continental U.S." thing on there, and it will sell eventually. It's just a convenience, because shipping within the country is very easy, and it's a big market too. But I can understand that it would suck to be from another country and have to deal with people who just want to do things the easy way.

Re: Why don't you sell out of CONUS?

well, i think alot of the problems stem from the fact when you tell the buyer the shipping charges, they balk at paying the charges...yea like i set the shipping rates.

Yeah thats pretty much what it is for me.

I had a WGS for $20 plus shipping and i was contacted by a guy in canada where shipping was something like $30 bucks. I told the guy how much it would be total and he offered $25 shipped, i again told him that shipping was $30 and im not gonna take a 5 buck loss just for the pleasure of seeing the the thing out of my house. He then became belligerent telling me that i was trying to rip him off and to contact him with the real shipping price. I sent him a link with the weight of the speaker and my zipcode.

Never heard back from him...
