Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

What do double cream humbuckers and Golden Globe winning actress Natalie Wood have in common? Both are just lovely, and both were brutally murdered in 1981.

That Les Paul had double cream humbuckers and I eventually found one like it. A ‘59. Sent it to Gibson for a refret around 1970 and they ruined it. I sold it.

I have nothing to add. I am a Gibson fan and Gibson player, but I'm not blind. I just had to quote that for posterity.

Gibson around that time didn’t have a clue. They were building guitars for long haired hippies but seemed to not like long haired hippies. When I went to Kalamazoo to pick up my guitar I tried it out and played a few B.B. King and Eric Clapton inspired licks, the then service manager actually rolled his eyes and mimicked what I was playing in a sing song voice as if to insinuate that that was not real music. They were so out of touch. What they did to my guitar was remove the neck binding to install the frets and then replace it sloppily. I left it there and asked them to redo the job. A few weeks later I went back and they had refinished the guitar and reduced the width of the neck to make it more like the crap guitars they were making at the time. I hated it and put an ad in Rolling Stone and sold it.

I’d love to have a double cream JB/Jazz or JB/59 set for my Gold top.

You can, you just have to search used, and sometimes pay a bit more than used is worth.

I have a double cream JB from the late 70's that Seymour wound and it sounds like a smooth Custom or loud 59. Looks good and plays more versatile than my newer JB.

I’m don’t care for buying used really. Too much of a hassle if the deal goes sour.

Order zebra and reverse zebra and put the cream coils together.

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I recently purchased a Strat with "Aged White" pickups, HSS. the stock humbucker is double aged white. I wonder how close that color is to cream ? I want to drop a 59/Custom Hybrid double cream in, but that's a no go. Might just go with the black/cream.

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I ordered a double hex Custom Custom in "double khaki" from the Custom Shop once to match a DiMarzio I had in the neck. That was a while back though and for a while they stopped doing it do the DMZ going lawsuit happy, but things might have calmed down since then.

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I compared my Zebra JB (Black and Cream) to the stock Fender Aged White, Cream is very close. Since the pictures on the internet are not accurate, which color is closer to Cream? SD Parchment or Aged White ?

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

Neither of them are very close, but aged white is closer.

Re: Why is Double Cream not available on customer orders?

I ordered a double parchment Duncan Custom, F spaced with the 3 screw height adj. screws so I don't have to replace the mint green pickguard. I'm convinced that parchment is lighter than aged white the guitar came with. So, I looked into replacing the fender noiseless pickup covers with parchment, they don't sell covers separately and regular covers won't fit properly. So, I either accept the color difference and dig the tone like I should, OR replace the fender noiseless with Duncan parchment single coils and replace the knobs and tips with parchment. Wth. Lol. I'll probably just leave it alone and tell the story...
