ceramics tend to sound better in single coil rail pups and ear piercing in humbuckles? im suffering from a bad headache after playing with ceramics and alnico 5 humbuckles :smack:
Maybe because traditionally, one would use 250k pots with singles, and 500k with 'buckers. I use 250's with all my pups. My ceramic Distortion is nice and smooooth.

do most humbucker guitars come stock with 500k pots usually? and would it be still that ear piercing if im using alnico 2 or 3 pups with the 500k pots?
There must be something else unusual with your set up. Usually, humbuckers tend to be more mellow than singles. Of course, even that, is a broad generalization. Hopefully, others will chime in.
i dont mind the stock ceramics in my lp, i think alot depends on how u set ur amp to accomodate for the additional highs from the ceramic magnet. that said, i am replacing the stock p'ups anyways.

i prefer the brightness of duncans b/c it helps me 'cut through' in band practice. When not playing with a bass player i usually end up using both bridge and neck pickups to get a more forgiving tone. Also keep in mind that the tone pot is there to be used, just roll it back some
