Who cares how much it "costs to make."

It's just about supply and demand. You don't have to pay it, can diy it if you want. Or not have that pickup.

Also you can change strings instead of paying 20$ for someone else to do it.

At least they do have the option, if SD didn't want to do it they wouldn't have to. Getting extra for different leads can be the way to make it worthwhile to offer. If the extra is too much, people wouldn't buy it and that's one legitimate way of controlling business too.

Y'all get that just because you THINK something should cost *X* doesn't mean it's going to, right?

FYI baseplate change on 2 pickups took me 20 min...first time ever, and that was with needing to extend the lead on one of them.
If I'd have decided to make it a 4 conductor as well (I hate split buckers, never bother really) would've been an easy thing to do.

Buy an iron and get some skillz, or pay the $$.

It's not about doing it yourself. That's really a piece of cake to do. But that's not the point. It's no more costly for materials, for labor, for disruption of assembly line, for labelling, for marketing, etc. to make a 4 conductor '59 than to make a vintage single conductor with braided shielding '59. That was the original point of the OP.

However, if SD "wants" to charge more for whatever reason he wants to, That's ok. That's his prerogative. He can charge whatever he wants in spite of his production costs. And I personally am OK with that.

Otherwise, why would there be a difference in costs of Alnico 2 Pro, Jazz, Pearly Gates, Custom, Custom Custom, Cusrom 8, Distortion, '59, '59 4 conductor, Screamin Demon, Seth, Saturday Night Special, JB, 59/C hybrid, Full Shred, Alt 8, etc, etc. Admittedly most are $79, but some are considerably more. There is essentially no more cost of materials. Labor is the same.

But, like I said, Seymour can charge whatever he wants for whatever reason he wants, for whatever pup he wants. And that is OK. But let's not make rash claims that it is a material cost increase, or production line disruption, or supply and demand.

If it bugs you, buy something else. There's a million winders with 7.6ish PAF inspired buckers in 4 conductors with short legs.

We were questioning why a certain option cost extra in one specific instance when a multitude of other options in all other instances are not extra. If that’s pissing and moaning, well, ok... but what do you call incessant complaining about said discussion?

Are you ignoring the other aspects of accounting, packaging, lageling, etc with the Jazz pup (or the APH2, or the Custom, or the Pearly Gates, or any other 4 conductor pup) as compared with the '59.

Why can't the '59 with 4 conductor wires be treated like a different pup from the vintage '59...like the Custom, the Custom 5, the Custom Custom...instead of a modification with an upcharge?

It could, but it's currently not. Why is this so hard? lol.
