Re: why is the gainiac 2 so hard to find info for?
Please do,
I've been wondering this myself for a while.
I had the original gainiac and liked it, though it could have been better. It had ok classic metal tone but I got too much feedback out of it. Plus the lack of control over the clean channel made it seem more like a pedal than a preamp.
I replaced my Gainiac with the Rocktron Rampage, which is similar to the gainiac in many ways, but is in a pedal.
I love Rocktron sound but it's not great all-around versatile, its more niche specific. Not the greatest in distorted Full-chord definition but riffs come out sweet. Great classic dirty lead sound when the "scoop" is turned down...
I think the soundclips on the website don't do it much good. The clean sounds are great but the distortion clips are too simple and it doesn't seem like much effort was put into them.
I'm too cheap to pay the $200 price for a new one. I'm still waiting till someone sells on ebay too.
Post back if you get one, with sound clips please! :fingersx:
