Why no EVH bass series yet?

I would love to see like a P, J, or PJ equivalent of their striped series models, or something utilizing the wolfgang body type, maybe with Stainless Steel frets on all the models and alder/basswood bodies or something. Typical EVH fit and finish.

Seems like it would be a pretty easy thing to implement, I mean Eddie's son Wolfgang already has a wolfgang shaped bass model and some traditional striped ones that he plays. So design blueprints should exist right?

Are they on the drawing board or is this out of the question for some reason? Seems like a golden opportunity.

Yeah, I've been kinda expecting this too. Some may say, "well, Ed is a guitar player..." true, but he also is biz savvy enough to know he could probably cash in on a bass model. Esp since Wolfie plays a stripped guitar too. Perhaps it's coming, (PRS took quite awhile to get into basses) or maybe since Wolfie plays a diff brand. But even with that, they could still cash in just having it under Ed's brand. Plus, the EVH line is quality stuff, so if they do it right, it wouldn't be like them taking a crap bass and slapping the brand on it just to cash in.. Time will tell I guess.

I know right?

Like come on, that thing looks sick.

Got an N3 noiseless pickup in the front, the back might be a straight up vintage single jazz though. Maybe he's getting at copping some PJ tones out of a JJ setup. Or maybe the bridge pickup is an N3 too and just doesn't say so on the cover.

PRS has made bass guitars for as long as he has been in business - just on a special order basis. It has taken decades of would-be customers drooling over Private Stock Gallery photographs to convince Smith to commercialise on the Gary Grainger design.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

The basses Wolfgang uses are custom built by Fender. They also feature N3 pickups in the Wolfgang shaped ones and one Jazz Bass with black and white stripes; the other Jazz Bass shaped ones have EMG pups.

I'd pick up an EVH bass if that meant Fender would give me more than 20 frets.

Should have at least one more so it completes the octave.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

24 would be rad. Might have to alter the cutaway a bit so you can play up there comfortably, but there's no neck pickup being pushed back/tonal compromise.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

uh... am I the only one who realizes that bassists generally don't give two craps about Eddie Van Halen?

Michael Anthony, maybe, but Eddie? NOPE.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

Indeed. And pray tell what is he known for playing bass on? What are his best bass tones? His best bass gear? Best bass performances?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dude cmon lets be realistic here... I think we all KNOW that Michael Anthony hasn't been featured on a legitimate recording since 1972.

Anthony OBVIOUSLY came drunk to every recording session and couldn't play to the point where he would black out. Eddie would then come in to track his bass and when Anthony came to, he congratulated Anthony on a job well done while he was none the wiser.

Oh but what about live performances Falloff? Prerecorded by Eddie himself. When Anthony would have to take a solo. Why do you think Eddie ran off stage? To plug into his rig and play the bass solo for him.

Oh but why would they bother to pay him if he never did anything? Strap yourselves in gentlemen... Eddie Van Halen never wrote a single lick in his entire life...

All the writing in the band was done primarily by Anthony. I'm talking lyrics, guitar riffs, everything.
But Falloff, YOU just contradicted yourself. If Anthony wrote everything Van Halen did then why couldn't he even play his own music?

Simple. Eddie wanted alllllllll the credit and to be the main focus of the band. The bass lines for Van Halen NOW are relatively straightforward to support the massive yet acrobatic guitar. While Eddie can certainly play, he is no creative mind. In order to draw more focus to his playing, he deliberately got Anthony drunk and KEPT him drunk as much as possible and as long as he could while he was in the band. So Eddie would go back and strip the bass riffs down substantially. You should've HEARD the basslines Anthony had in mind. They were equivalent to how intricate and huge the guitar riffs were, and they didn't contrast or create dissonance with the guitar in the slightest because Anthony was that good. Tapping, harmonics, squeals and dive bombs, they were all there. The Mean Street intro was actually written on bass. Roth and Alex were honestly just hired guns thay Eddie found and made a back story for. Alex and Eddie aren't even brothers.

So yes, all the bass on any Van Halen record is technically Eddie and that's why we care about him. Or as he is known to us, The Great Usurper...

lol well played.

fwiw I actually think that from a pure design standpoint, the shape of the EVH wolfgang would be quite well suited to a mega punchy sounding bass for rock and metal and the like. But I stand by my assertion that the EVH name/brand is not conducive to selling basses. It is mostly guitarists that idolize EVH, his gear, his riffs, his massive contribution to shred and all that. All of that kinda flies over the heads of most bassists.
