Why no EVH bass series yet?

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

Not a big fan of the wolfgang body style. Now, if someone started making a teardrop shape like I once saw in a Geddy Lee photo, that would catch my attention. Make it a 5-string.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

lol well played.

fwiw I actually think that from a pure design standpoint, the shape of the EVH wolfgang would be quite well suited to a mega punchy sounding bass for rock and metal and the like. But I stand by my assertion that the EVH name/brand is not conducive to selling basses. It is mostly guitarists that idolize EVH, his gear, his riffs, his massive contribution to shred and all that. All of that kinda flies over the heads of most bassists.

Yeah dude I got you. Just playing around.

I sort of see what your saying, and do agree to a point. BUT, from a different perspective... The EVH striped guitars scream "fanboy", the EVH Wolfgang guitars are very good and versatile instruments. And they do try to market the amps as being great amps, not just a gimick to cop Ed's tone. So, why not make a nice bass under the EVH brand name? Just a thought.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

This, like anything out there that is going to bear someones name, comes down to the weight that name has.

EVH could put out a great Wolfgang bass that is well made and very versatile, but the problem with tacking Wolfgang's name on there is that the bulk of the playing population will say "Well, I don't like Wolfgang so why would I buy his bass?" There's already a pre-conceived notion about that instrument because of the artist associated with it. Why does the EVH stuff sell well? Because it's Eddie Van Halen, one of the greatest guitar players of our time, or all time. He's got the weight to carry his own line and be successful at it, because of the name.

No matter how cool or versatile it would be, I think the Wolfgang bass would be a hard sell based on that alone.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

Definately true, but people buy Fender basses and Schecter etc. So, Im betting that if they made a great bass, it would sell. Maybe not like the guitars, but would still sell

I don't think so; Wolfgang doesn't have the name yet.

Who's in Fender's Signature Line? Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, Mark Hoppus, Reggie Hamilton, Adam Clayton, Jaco, Steve Harris, Roger Waters, Tony Franklin, etc.. These are all much more widely known names. Plus, FENDER is on the headstock, and that's going to carry a little weight on its own, ESPECIALLY in the bass world.

Wolfgang - and EVH as a company - is too small to get any major traction immediately. It might sell at some point, but I think more than likely it won't.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

I dont disagree, but as well made as the EVH guitars are, I think people may consider an EVH bass. The low friction pots and such. If it plays well, Id look at one.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

I never considered associating Wolfgang Van Halen himself with any bass EVH would make, like as if they were his signature model or something.

Just a bass made by the EVH company. They'll have promotion help from Fender and all and Eddie's name alone is enough to sell anything well, whether or not he actually uses it.

I mean Clyde McCoy was a trumpet player and his name sells wah pedals like crazy right? Doesn't have to be a direct connection to any specific artist to sell well or indicate quality. Hell if they really wanted to though, I'm sure they could find some big name bass players to endorse their models. Wouldn't be too hard, especially if the instruments were good.

Re: Why no EVH bass series yet?

Indeed. And pray tell what is he known for playing bass on? What are his best bass tones? His best bass gear? Best bass performances?
Eddie played the bass on Sammy Hagar's "I Never Said Goodbye" album.

because bassists are dumb and can't think that rationally.
