Why people still insist on Wilkinson?

I see several people replacing their stock hardware for Wilkinson parts and encouraging others to do so. God, why?
I had two Les Pauls with stock Wilkinsons. I sold one and replaced the tuners of the other one with Schaller. No regrets. Those are the worst tuners I've ever seen and my chrome bridge got vintage in five years...
Even stock Ibanez Gio and stock Squier would do a better job in a well set-up guitar.
BTW: some might say branded tuners are expensive, I've got mine working for minimal age in Brazil during the 2014 crisis.

I have a wilkinson vsvg bridge in a Hamer I've had since about '96 and it's never given me a moment's hassle and it's still in great condition keeping tune well.

I don't think I've ever specifically recommended them, but have bought another trem on the strength of it which I have still to use.

Never had any of their tuners though.

Re: Why people still insist on Wilkinson?

Like anything, if you have a good experience with them/it/whatever, then you recommend based on that.

It would be silly to think that just because you personally have had a bad experience that everyone else must have had as well.

Re: Why people still insist on Wilkinson?

ive only used wilkinson bridges but i like them just fine and havent had any issues

Wilkinson is a really good brand, as well as Schaller, Gotoh, Sperzel, or what have you. Its all personal preference and what works best for you, or actually what fits best on the guitar in some cases..

Re: Why people still insist on Wilkinson?

I once tried a cheapo Cort Strat that had a Wilkinson trem stock. It performed very smoothly and was surprisingly stable, with old strings and no stretching-preparation.
I also tried a Grover-era USA Washburn with a Wilk trem and it performed really well.

I'd happily have one of those units. Hadn't tried their tuners or pickups, though.

I have used their bridges with no issues.

They also have fairly nice pickups, if you'd believe it. I bought a set for an art piece I bought at an auction. It was a cheap squier that had been painted within an inch of its life. I didn't want good pickups, I just wanted a different look for the bridge pickup. I plaugged it in and it was pretty decent. An added bonus is that their naming system is fairly straightforward. Some of their more popular sets are "High Output Humbucker" or "Vintage Single Coil".

Re: Why people still insist on Wilkinson?

Wilkinson has been around a long time however I had read that in recent years they outsourced production offshore to Southeast Asia and quality is not what it once was.

You have to pay attention to stuff like that. Like how Fender still brags about their amps having Schumacher transformers. Well, if you look up Schumacher as a company all they now sell is cheap Chinese electronic junk with the Schumacher brand slapped on it. There's nothing quality and the "heritage" died long ago.

I have three of their trem bridges on my strats. Like them a lot better than Fender stock.

I've been Interested in the VS100n and the VSVG for some time now... was thinking about eventually getting one of the 2 and a brass block for my Fender American Standard Strat. I find they look sweet on strats and I used them a couple times a few years ago and liked them.
